Negativity? Who said that?

With the focus of attention in Middleboro during the past year, the willingness of many to accept without question fairytales, gossip and outright lies has been breathtaking at times.

.

Critics complain of the negativity, failing to hear the proposed solutions or recognize the goal of much needed improvement.

.

And those same critics, so focused on their target, ignore the facts. Many of those critics are defending their participation in the blunders.

.

Puttering around the internet, excerpts of an article that included inflammatory rhetoric, emotionally charged words deliberately chosen to attack and demean the opposition were discovered and are listed below. Can you guess who wrote it?

.

Without a swaggering, barely articulate, brush clearing "brat and a Bud Bush" the mouth breathers can relate to,....
.
If ____ is the candidate talk show bigots and swift boaters will use anything and everything to lift the rotting logs of sexism and get their creepy crawlies to the polls.
.
They will stoke the flames of racial and religious racial animus ....
.
We know that there is a segment of society so filled with hate untempered by higher level cognitive functioning that they will believe anything that reinforces their prejudices.
.
.... these butt scratchers may not feel that it is worth breaking their usual routine to actually go to the polls.
.
...the hucksters of hate ...
.
....so the later will probably be used by the scummiest of the right wing scum.
.
....candidate...once and for all put a permanent cork in the garbage mouths of these puke mongers.

.

After reading the above, confusion is understandable when reading the following authored by the same person (emphasis mine):

.

....after looking over the blogs and comments on the blogs which are a popular feature of the CasinoFacts.org website, I saw rhetoric that I would never publish on this website.
.
...some of them choose to use vicious humor or just nasty names to insult those with whom they disagree.
.
Mudslinging in private is one thing....
.
....something libelous ....
.
Monitoring several blogs or message boards to assure they meet an organization or website's standards for propriety and courtesy is a time consuming task.
.
The only rule aside from good taste and civility is that anonymous material will not be published.
.
.
That same author departed a discussion forum when other posters disagreed with him.
.
And that same author has refused to respect others when shoving a camera in their face and disrupting public meetings by climbing over furniture (incidentally, in violation of the Open Meeting Law), instead defending his right to do so.
.
Maybe Hal can explain why he has become precisely what he has criticized in others.

Thank you for bringing this hate speech blog to the public's attention and for taking the high road in the way you presented it.

Hal could have chosen to present his opinions without falling to the level of flaming groups who don't share his point of view. In essence, in his post, Hal became the embodiment of all he proclaims to stand against. Shame on him. He should know better.

Disagreement and debate is healthy. Vitriolic tirades that label and name-call are alienating and damaging. Hal, please, separate your emotions from your political thoughts.

Hal Brown:

You've lost considerable credibility in my opinion as a result of your post on Capitol Hill Blue. Your characterizations of others with opposing viewpoints from yours were completely inappropriate. Tolerance is critical in responsible debate. Please show others the respect you would expect them to show you.

May I suggest that the author of the Capitol Hill Blue article find a more positive way to work out his anger and frustration?

One of the things Hal can't recognize, is that he is one of the main culprits in the degeneration of the casino debate. From the earliest days and continuing on to this day, Hal's commentary has inflamed the pro-casino ranks with innuendo about racism in the anti-casino ranks. Hal has cleverly avoided saying "X is a racist" usually phrasing it like "This sounds like the words of an angry bigot".

What Hal has yet to recognize is that the problem is not with the technicalites of what he as written and whether or not it is actionable, it is about how his words are interpreted by the average reader.

Like it or not Hal, it is your web site that started much of the animosity. The majority of anti-casino people interpreted your writings as proof-positive that anti-casino people were racist. That create anger and was the beginning of the animosity. Like or not Hal - that's the way it was.

MR - I just found this post and had a chance to review the carefully and not so carefully disguised hate speech of Hal Brown. This man's a piece of work! A compassionate counselor who used such venomous words to describe those with whom he disagreed? We number among our friends those of all political persuasions and would never, ever describe them as Hal has done. The man clearly has some issue that need counseling.
