Middleboro BOS: Misplaced Indignation #6

For any who missed it, CapeCodOnline reports --
.
The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe yesterday terminated its contract with Stephen Graham, the alleged mastermind behind illegal campaign contributions made by former Wampanoag tribal chairman Glenn Marshall.
.
Not a surprising move, but one that should have been taken earlier.

Sounds like the sharks are eating their young.

Former pals VV/IA, AB, and LL square off. Doing more damage to each other than they ever accused the antis of. More to come, I'm sure.

The investors can't be too happy with the Tribe canning Graham. Put another nail in that casino coffin.

Wow, things just keep getting curiouser and curiouser.

If voters aren't mad, they should be.

Who are the Selectmen to fault townspeople insisting on an explanation?

Wake up, people!

My question remains: How is it that MimiD and HB, and any other Middleboro resident, public or private, had finger tip access to Stephen Graham, a front man for the investors? It's not exactly like anyone can dial 411 to get his phone #. Ms. Duphilly's excuses were just that. Sorry, I don't believe the story she gave. it just doesn't ring true. I want to know who had what to gain through contact with Graham. That's not a hard question.

I'm sick and tired of elected officials either ignoring or trying to silence taxpayers. They didn't get into office through divine right of succession. We put them there, and by golly they are completely accountable to his. I thought they took an oath to serve the town, not themselves.

Clowns? Got that right.

It was known more than a year ago that Federal Authorities were investigating the Tribe.

Abramoff's connections were known.

That small town hicks didn't see the handwriting on the wall tells you who you elected.

Think twice before casting your ballot in April.

There's a 3 way race to fill Bond's term.

Lincoln hasn't attended a town meeting until the last one and is unfamiliar with the issues. His public comments during that meeting made that clear.

Greg Stevens? Will CFO make the same mistake and endorse him and contribute to his campaign? Greg hasn't attended a meeting since the last election, has he? He shows no indication of interest in town government other than the casino. He's made a few superficial comment that indicate he doesn't care about anything else. He made sure he sat within camera view at each BOS meeting and then he talked during the entire meeting.

Rullo? A CPA? Has been on the Finance Committee? We need to find out more about him, could he hit the ground running? If he's retired he should have the time to devote to town matters.

Let's ask the important questions at Candidates' Night. This town needs a Board that resembles other towns in the way it conducts business.

Please tell me what's up with a BOS that gets all huffy and uptight when a citizen asks a legitimate question. Tough questions come with the territory. They're not personal and affect the welfare of the whole town. Pretty shabby when a resident is put on the defensive. I wonder how many folks are wishing now that they'd paid more attention to the recall.

No other town I've ever lived in allowed the shenanigans I've seen here in the past two years. No excuse for apathy after all that's gone on since '07. All the BS that's going on is the result of our allowing it. I refuse to listen to any bitchin' from anyone who doesn't take the time to learn about the candidates then go out and cast their votes.

Look at who this man Graham is...a likely to be indicted conspirator who illegally funneled funds to gain Federal recognition for the tribe on behalf of casino investors. And this is the man our present and a former BOS member are accused of seeking comraderie with. Nothing else needs to be said about him. But we do have to know what the exact nature of any relationship our Board members have/had, why, and what were their motivations. Better to just come clean than to wait for the results of investigations or bad blood among members of the pro community. What we don't know could potentially hurt us all far more than what we do. This needs to be dealt with and now is the time. I am not accusing anyone of anything, but I am very uncomfortable with the lack of forthrightness. We need to open the windows and air this all out.

I live in a surrounding community with a Board of Selectmen that is composed of 'professionals.' They conduct themselves in a responsible manner and treat voters with respect.

I took the time to watch the videos and the conduct that Middleboro tolerates is baffling.

Your Board of Selectmen is elected, just as ours is. Middleboro's Board seems to believe they are annointed and above reproach.

The failure of Middleboro voters to take the time to participate has placed the entire region in our current position of having to address impact costs because of the casino that was negotiated behind closed doors and prohibited input from us. Selectman Rogers may be above reproach in this instance, but he continually approached the RTF for a seat at the table, where Middleboro didn't belong.

During last week's meeting, he promised to analyze costs. More than a year later, one must wonder why. The Board of Selectmen failed to provide that information prior to this deal.

It's difficult to understand why these people were elected to their positions.

A toxic cloud has settled over Middleborough politics. Just when I think things can't get any worse, it does.

AB removed LL's ad.

Replaced it with another without authority. Removed it today.

Somethin's up.

What secrets will he spill?

We were out Monday evening and didn't get to watch the meeting as we usually do. Tuesday evening we viewed the re-broadcast. There are a large number of items to fault during the meeting, but the exchanges you posted are particularly distressing.
My husband reviewed the other blogs and didn't find comments we agreed with until you posted yours. There is not a single thing you have posted that we disagree with. All 4 current members of the Board of Selectmen are to be condemned for various reasons. Mr. Rogers for being unnecessarily rude and for his ire at being questioned.
Mrs. Duphily is pretty clear cut.
What is striking about her comments is her violation of the Open Meeting Laws. She participated in a fundraiser for Victor Sylvia. You couldn't know Vic without appreciating his commitment to the Open Meeting Law. Vic understood the need for transparency and obeying the laws.
Mrs. Duphily clearly didn't know Vic.
Anyone who did could just see him lecturing her about how her conduct violated the law and she needed to change her attitude.
If you knew Victor, you knew that you could disagree without becoming enemies as this Board seems to believe.
It is offensive that residents of this town who are attempting to gather answers were scolded by Mrs. Duphily.
When she chastised that young man for not speaking with her privately, that was even more inappropriate.
Excuse me, Mrs. Duphily, but who do you think you are?
If that young man were to gather his answers from her in private conversations, it would be even more inappropriate.
To that young man I would say, you shouldn't have apologized. You were perfectly correct. Those answers needed to be on the public record. Mrs. Duphily placed herself in a compromising position with all of her actions.
Filing inquiries to the Ethics Commission requesting a clarification for Mrs. Duphily seems a proper step.

Lincoln would be nothing but a BIG MOUTH PROBLEM. Picture an enlarged Wayne Perkings. Got the picture. Bill you are partially correct when you said (we) voted them in. Thankfully, I for one was NOT one of the WE. I voted differently. Hopefully this time, more that didn't take the time to vote have learned a valuable lesson. Mimi is like a bobble head. She knows nothing and that is so apparent every time she just opens her mouth. Marsha, she should have been gone long ago along with pat and the mad texter. Those they keep voting them in, hope you are happy with the mess we are in and just getting deeper. Maybe if wayne makes moderator he will donate all the taxpayers hip boots as we will be knee high in shit. Then again, it just keeps getting deeper so better make em full body cover alls.

What is TOTALLY sad is that a few years back we had EDUCATED, CARING and would have made a change for the people candidates. Guess they just got sick of running and not having the people that agreed with them take the time to go vote. Now in all honesty, IT'S THE LESSER OF THE EVILS. I don't see any change coming to town.

If Bond was trying to get Marshal back in control and didn't know about the indictment, is he next, along with Graham? Will other selectman go?

Anonymous said...

Until you came along, no one criticized the BOS. Few understood town government enough or even paid attention.
We used to watch the meetings and yell at the tv.
It's still the same Old Boys and will be until voters get involved, volunteer for comittees, run for office.
Wayne Perkins as town moderator? Put the horse out to pasture and get some young blood.

This is slightly off topic, but I listened to the Plymouth Selectmen discuss the planning that went into Plymouth Rock Studios. The Board was professional, involved in ensuring details would benefit the community and were dedicated to the process that required a great deal of time, effort and energy. Their dedication to the details was impressive.
Then I returned to Middleboro where a casino was forced on the town with little discussion, no detailed planning, no public input, no consideration of the impacts, no transparency.
The process is suspect to this day.
The Marshal indictment and future investigations may provide some answers and some local indictments. It's hard to believe this was done honestly under the circumstances. Why the rush?
Plymouth Rock Studios wasn't rushed and will benefit the town.
If the casino was such a good idea, more time and transparency would have proven it.

Middleboro voted for McCain, like a number of other communities across the region.
That seems to indicate a willingness to accept campaign rhetoric without thought.
Under those circumstances, those voters seem content to accept the poor management of the town without understanding what's going on or watching meeting.
It won't change with this thinking.

I believe Rullo is the brother-in-law of Laurie Garafalo a stauch member of casino friends and middleborough friends who owns land near the casino. Guess they want to take one more Selectman seat to clinch the vote. Then they him along with Mimi, Marsha, Steve.

It's good the casino supporters are always thinking. Sounds like another conflict of interest. How many pow wows has he been to?

How come this doesn't come under RICO? This was never arm's length on the part of the town. If the feds aren't examining local events and go after bigger fish the AG needs to take the ball and Martha needs to prove she's worthy of higher office. Martha, I can't imagine a better case to prove your worth! There has always been a stench from the process.

It's unclear how untainted the current leadership of the tribe is in spite of new names.
Since the tribe has no historical roots to Mboro and for numerous other reasons, LIT will be turned down. This is a fantasy that will never come to pass. It was a poorly drafted agreement with too many loopholes. Parts are unenforceable. Time to move on.

Mrs. Duphily was elected in April.
Who is she to scold a resident who requested clarification of her conduct? Where was the rest of the Board that believes that's acceptable conduct? I'm still irritated about that meeting. Just who do these people think they are? What arrogance!

Anonymous said...

Without sounding too down on the upcoming election in April, I strongly feel that the incoming people that are running ESPECIALLY Lincoln would NOT be an asset for our town. Just look at the wheeling and dealing he did for himself and the court couldn't even find him liable for his in my opinion wrong doings. Knowing him somewhat, he is a loud mouth that would fit in perfectly with the current standing BOS

Isn't there a "Rullo" on the town payroll? Any relation?

Did you see the 'campaign ad' Wayne Perkins posted on Tony Lawrence's site? His credentials sure sounded impressive, but when he was running for office, I remember him saying that he was a Process Server when he worked for Plymouth County Sheriff and it was the best job he ever had. It's not even worth checking, but makes you wonder what else he embellished. Isn't it odd how the Republican criticize the Democratic waste in the state and the pension system, but they can't wait to feed at the trough?

Anonymous said...

With $140K in tax free pension, I thought Lincoln spent winters in Florida. Sounds like another pro casino hack. Has he ever been to a town meeting before the last? What explains his sudden 'civic duty'? I'm not a believer.

Anonymous said...

Isn't it strange that Wayne Perkins would reach out to Oak Point? Maybe it's because they don't know his past history of getting the town in the financial mess we're in.

Anonymous said...

It's hard to believe the poor quality of candidates willing to run in Middleboro. It seems the qualified candidates see how pathetic the Board is and don't want to waste their time. For all the new people in town, why can't they ever get involved? I see a lot of complaining but no real commitment to any committee or even attending meetings. Pretty pathetic bunch considering they'll inherit this mess.

Anonymous said...

To my knowledge there is a Lt. Rullo or an officer Rullo on the MPD. Yeah, he's great also. NOT,, He's just another yes em boss type guy.

Anonymous said...

This is off topic again but did you see who else is running for Town Moderator? Yay!

Are you going to comment on the Bond article? I thought it was disgusting.
Yeah he met with Marshall can't remember how many times. Bet the feds can.
