PTWS: Pathetic Town Web Site

The Middleborough Web Site is down.
.
Does anyone know anything about it?
.
Was someone watering the mushrooms again?
.
When I went in earlier today to examine the BOS agenda, I noticed a heading about Executive Sessions and wanted to review it more thoroughly.
.
Has anyone taken a look?

Well, it seems you're the only one able to access it at all. I went in uncer two different browsers and the site failed. What a technically antiquated, undependable POS! Now I read on another site that there's no accountability because the IT director gets periodic raises without being subjected to the periodic performance reviews he would face in the private sector. That stinks!

Anonymous said...

Pathetic doesn't even begin to describe the endangered species aka PTWS. What use is a site we can't even log into? I smell nepotism here, and that should not be tolerated. Thanks for the tip off, MR.

OMG! Are you watching our illustrious IT Director speak before the bos? Does anyone find him credible? Any informed person that is? I hope the audience has hip boots on. They'll need it!
Doesn't this guy get like $100K?

Anonymous said...

Maybe they did us a favor by shutting the PTWS down. It's totally worthless anyhow. Can't find the info I want on it. Poor organization. Lack of updates. Difficult to navigate. Doesn't whoever's in charge have any sense of pride in his work or lack thereof? It's a joke, a not very funny joke. Is the IT director even taking any courses on the new state of the art technology? Obviously not! And he's being paid what---$100,000/yr.? For what? We should be demanding some accountability here!! C'mon people. We're paying for this incompetence out of our hard earned tax dollars. We have the right to call Mr. Brunelle on his lack of adequate performance. Here's my performance review--- minus 5 out of 10. And that's being generous.

What does it say about this Board of Selectmen that they can't even get the web site right? How many people have to complain or comment?
There is no information there. What is there is disorganized and disasterous.
The town clerk and assessors have worked with this disaster and posted forms and information. Other than that it's a pathetic joke.
If the current director lacks the ability to correct this, his job should be outsourced and we'd save a bucket of cash and get a better product especially in this economy.

My 12 year old could create a better service. In fact, most kids have more savvy than the Town Website's administrator. What a piece of crap. Does anyone even know if he has any real qualifications for his position. Couldn't prove it by me.

Anonymous said...

As a software engineer I know this guy would get canned in a New York minute in the real world.

Anonymous said...

Someone told me this guy voluntered himself into the position when he was out of work and has no credentials.
The department should be outsourced to save money. He should be the first to go.
Sputaro talks about compression and works with computers or something. Why isn't he talking about this disaster? The school department and the library have better sites. Time to get rid of the dead wood. We can't afford it. Given the choice between the library and him? That's a no brainer! Outsource!

Anonymous said...

Boy would I like to walk into such a cream puff six figure job. And I'm actually well trained! Lots of free software out there to get something decent up and running. Two to three months to crank out something that would give the town finger tip touch to anything info they want.

Anonymous said...

Time to get rid of the clown. Let's make him special events coordinator or mega special town meeting coordinator. We pay him when he concocts an event. He did damn good last time burying the costs. Some of us noticed.

I need easy access to town information for my Real Estate business. A better website would save me trips to Town Hall. My time is valuable too.

Anonymous said...

Hey Roger! What's up with the uprades you promised and never delivered? Too stubborn and proud to accept a little "professional" help? I defy you to show me a worse website than the one you run. Is it true that when a town owned PC crashes, you have to send it out for repairs? MR's blogs have left a lot of us with some pretty big questions for you. Time to start addressing them. We're the one's who are actually paying your salary.

Anonymous said...

right?
You're one of the few who still looks at it. POS.
Fire the guy and outsource.

Anonymous said...

I really don't mean to insult anyone, but I can see any good reason for the Town IT Dept. not to move into the 21st century. This is the information age after all and I want to know why I'm having so much trouble finding what I'm looking for. I think the BOS needs to address why our town web site isn't up to par with those of surrounding towns. Geez, Bridgewater's Selectmen are just a click away with direct links to their emails. No excuses please. Just put your noses to the grindstone and work this mess out. Please!

Anonymous said...

We just can not afford to keep someone who's not performing to even to minimum standards just because he is related to a member of the BOS. I say give him six months, have someone from the outside do an audit, and if there isn't significant improvement---can him. That may sound cruel, but it's business, not personal. Outsourcing has become standard practice in the business world. Unfortunately, the same criteria for justifying a high salary should also apply to a Town employee. We're a dirt poor town who will face recievership if we allow someone to keep a job when he's not pulling his weight. Mr. IT Director, time to listen up!

MR,
My work schedule keeps me on the road or plane from Monday through Friday, but my wife (whom you know) has inspired an interest in the town we call home.
I love Middleborough, but didn't understand town meeting and how town government worked until my wife introduced me to your blog.
The Selectmen's Meetings could be included on the web site to enable viewing as I travel.
As I understand it, the cable fees could be used to broadcast other town committee meetings in the interest of transparency, encouraging participation and informing the public. I noticed that Mr. Brunelle was on the cable committee and wonder if that's why this avenue of information has not been pursued.
My wife saves the Gazette for me to read the following week when I'm on the road so I'm generally a week behind, but Mr. Bellanger's editorial about the, as it is now called "PTWS" is accurate. There is a great deal that could be accomplished by high school students or those not particularly experienced in the technology because of its simplicity.
You have heightened my awareness and I hope to continue to enjoy your comments.
My wife got a babysitter for STM, as you call it and I juggled my schedule to attend.
Our schedules will be adjusted to attend the Annual Town Meeting now that we understand the importance of our attendance.
If you're keeping score, please count 2 of us who have become involved because of you.

This isn't related but you need to say something about this.
Tonight, Spatero finally woke up after spending what is it? 3 years? Sleeping or text messaging through meetings. Maybe it's your fault.
I still won't vote for him.

Anonymous said...

Mother of God!
Are you watching these people talk about needing money to create a town web site after all the information that's available about it costing nothing?
God save us from the stupid!

Anonymous said...

Give me a break! There's lots of stiff competition in this field. No one where I work gets perks w/o performing better than the next guy. If we're not on the fast track, we're soon history. We need to set much higher expectations for a town department head. We're not running a charity here. Many of us are busting our butts doing the 128 commute, meeting constant deadlines, and facing the music if we don't meet the schedule. No excuses are acceptable. Same should apply for Mr. Brunelle. Living under pressure is a way of life for the rest of us. Why should it be any different for him? Bottom line-It shouldn't, and we can't allow it. I personally resent the BOS letting this situation slide.

Anonymous said...

BOS. We;re getting mad as hell and we're not going to put up with this any longer. Get a grip and do what's right. We elected you to represent us. Now do your job and have RB shape up or ship out.

Anonymous said...

Does anybody watch these meetings? Do the selectmen watch how stupid they sound?
Cristello falls on his swords and explains that to get the project list submitted by the deadline incidentally in electronic format, he cobbled them together.
If the board weren't so busy catering to an inflamed ego and was actually doing its job, they could have held a public session, allowed public input. What a novel concept! Does anyone on the Board of Selectmen think that a resident of the town might actually have an idea?
The town manager will have scars on his body to prove his devotion if he keeps this up.

Anonymous said...

MR,
I usually read your blog without commenting. But reading all this tonight has made me really pissed off.

$100,000??? For what? That poor excuse for a website?

What are we going to do about this? We don't make a lot of money and it's very hard to pay those tax bills. And this is what we get for all that scrimping and saving? Leaders who don't listen to us? Town employees who don't pull their weight?

Get rid of anyone not earning their keep. Get a new slate. Boy I can't wait for town elections. Somethings got to give here.

I run my household better than those deadheads run this town and that ain't saying much. This is a disgusting situation.

Anonymous said...

After all that has been said and written about creating a town web sit for FREE, these morons are still talking about the costs.
Please, please, please keep saying we need to watch these meetings.
Tonight was it for me.
I will never ever vote for an incumbents who is as stupid as these 4.
Where are the professionals in this town who need to step forward and run it?
Other towns don't operate in this same stupid good ole boy mentality that's reminiscent of the 1900's.
For God's sakes watch these people, get involved, volunteer, vote and attend town meeting to get rid of the dander.
Time for change.

Anonymous said...

Get rid of the dead wood. Put him out to pasture and outsource.
In this economy, we could improve the service for less money, get a better product.

Anonymous said...

For everyone who is as aggravated with the PTWS and the incompetent BOS please just write a quick note to either the BOS Secretary for review in the weekly correspondence section or write a letter to the editor or even better get a few of you together and show up at a BOS meeting and say something during the section called 'other' which is open to the public. The BOS surely is not reading this blog but it is difficult for them to ignore a letter to the editor or ,even better, a public appearance. I'll see you there! (I'm there most weeks)

Devoid of Bond's histrionics, the Board he worked to elect was revealed in its incompetence this evening.

When the Board of Selectmen were asked during a recent meeting if they were aware that Selectmen's Meeting Minutes had not been posted since JULY 2008, the question was met with chuckles, like who checks the web site?
Is it the job of the Selectmen to determine the transparency of town government?
I dunno. But whose is it?
Was it ever discussed that the town manger seems to have a problem with transparency, goes off on his own, submits a list of projects, no public discussion and thinks nothing of it?
His Special Town Meeting Warrant was a nightmare. There was no information ahead of time. He commented about the nonsense about the contracts, didn't have time, and so on.
He did his homework before he came here. He should have known.
The Rock Village School? What's going on there? Another backroom deal? This sounds like Jack Healey to me. It's a cold day in hell I'll vote to sell another town parcel with these incompetents in office.
Do we need to get rid of this town manager also?

Anonymous said...

The PTWS defines the BOS.
It was only because of a stupid, lazy Board of Selectmen that Jack Healey accomplished all he did to the detriment of the town.
The same pattern of laziness is repeating itself.
They can't correct the town web site which has been criticized for YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS.
Get rid of this Board and vote for people with brains not ego, one position at a time.
Get rid of Spataro who has slumbered in front of the cameras for the last few years until he was up for re-election.
If you re-elect him, he'll go back to sleep, resume text messaging or eating his supper during meetings and never figure out what town government is about. Why is he even running? He really doesn't care. Does anyone have his non-pub number? Does anyone really care?
The man's a clown. What's with the grey? Run out of Grecian Formula?
Get rid of the Gavel Queen who spits out Hubby's words, whines that "We've tried to do that for years" and never actually does anything.
Mimi? She'll soon be yesterday's news when the AG and Ethics talk to her. Noce lady. Selectman? Naw!

MR,
If you knew who I was I doubt that you'd print this. We certainly haven't agreed on much.

But you have raised some questions that have been weighing on my mind as well.

How is it that this Board has done nothing to address a nagging problem that has been brought to its attention time and time again--a town website of such low caliber.

It's been a public joke for quite some time. But increasingly the humor is being lost on me. Look at the dough we're shelling out on someone we trusted to produce quality but continually fails to produce it.

I generally tend to give people more slack than you do. However, it's become blantantly obvious that we have a slacker on our hands.

I encourage people to make their voices heard loudly and clearly that we need to bring someone from the outside in to create a new website that matches the need of the town and its people.

It's really very simple. Just pick up the phone and call the BOS members.

If RB feels overwhelmed and overburdened why doesn't he just accept some help? Oh wait....he doesn't want anyone messing with his "baby". Silly me. I forgot that some men never admit when they're in over their heads.

Dig yourself out of this one Roger.

I've read all the comments here. What you people don't understand is that you have to allow Mr. B believe that creating a better website is his idea. It's just taking him a little extra time to figure out how.

save the town 200K and get rid of the IT dept

the re-broadcast of the bos meeting. With his raise, Roger finally bought some new suits. Silk purse sow's ears comes to mind. Maybe he should have invested in some IT courses.

Anonymous said...

Why isn't the crusader of compression recommending that we compress the IT departments?
We could combine the masterpiece of the library with the crap site from the town, get rid of Roger and save + $100K.
Hey, Steve, that's a no brainer.

Does anyone remember when Roger Brunelle declared himself head landscape architect of Town Hall and destroyed all of the vegetation separating the Town property from its neighbors on a weekend?
He reminded me of the Johnny Depp movie, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS.
He destroyed the privacy of the abutters and the framing of the Town Hall.
But the simple minded suburban mentality of this little man cost the town planting new shrubs that didn't survive and destroyed the ambiance. Take a look at where he lives. No wonder he doesn't understand why others want to live in Mboro.
Just keep him away from a chain saw.

Anonymous said...

Wasn't there some kind of scandal in the town the Brunelles left?

We've endured this overall incompetence and cronyism of the BOS for far too long. Time to take our town back. Time to let them know what we will accept and what we won't. We've allowed them way too much power and the old adage "Absolute power corrupts abolutely" is 100% true. Time to storm the Bastille. In figurative terms election day could be the Day of Reckoning. Let's get behind two good candidates who will work for the people instead of resisting them. We have put up with far too much for far too long. The disarray of the IT Dept is just a symptom of an overall abuse of power, mostly by failure to act. Wake up Middleborough!! You can make a difference. You can make change happen.

Anonymous said...

Back to the late 60s. I'll be chaining myself to the Town Hall doors in protest. Power to the people!!!

Out with the whole damned board--one at a time.

Anonymous said...

The dinosaur site is up and running again this morning. Notice the last update. Is there any acceptable excuse for that? NO!

Anonymous said...

I once read a book titled "People of the Lie" by psychiatrist Scott Peck. It's about people who hide in the dark, refusing to face the truth of their actions. Know anyone like that?

Anonymous said...

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA: This is Middleboro. Nepitism? Half the board doesn't even know the meaning of honesty. Maybe Marsha and Roger weren't legally married when she got him this kick ars job that he just rants about to himself. FIRE HIM..Save the town money and get a high school or college intern involved in SOLVING the IT problems. Would save money and benefits and get rid of one Brunelle at a time. He was in charge of the field for the open town meeting. He definitely is "AN OUTFIELDER" He wasn't even capable of keeping TOILET PAPER available in the OUTHOUSES. Did we forget that one?

Anonymous said...

If Jerry was pizzed off about the $100,000.00 for the ever so bright IT director, how will he feel when he reads in todays Enterprise all the jobs this casino will create? Remember though first jobs go to Indians, then Middleboro residents (yeah ok). Has the town BOS or anyone not read or heard lately? They are all laying off. If people don't have money to spend, then there must be less gambling. So now what? There will be very little if any money for anyone from this big casino joke. There will be new streets and costs to the town though. Sounds like this should really be a GO plan. JUMP RIGHT IN. Right ADAM, JACK,WAYNE and the rest?

Anonymous said...

Cristello has to think this is a joke.

Anonymous said...

If someone offered to make a new web site for free, why didn't Roger take them up on it? Afraid they'll figure out what he doesn't know about computers? Give me a break! These are my tax dollars paying for yet another town employee who can't do his job.

Anonymous said...

You posted a report about the number of taxpayers per town employe. Mboro has too many. This might be a good place to outsource.

Anonymous said...

who was it that said "If you walk around with a waxed head, stay out of the sun" Good thing at the big open town meeting Marsha had her hat on. God only knows what she would have said, done or signed. Has she read the book on Roger Rabbit? Maybe the town really needs to 86 him out of the IT position. That money could be cut back to hire someone else that knows what to do. Then the BOS can slip the extra money left over from Rogers salary to someone else.
