Bubbles is yet another heartbreaker from the Brooklyn ACC. We don't know how she came here, but Bubbles is not happy. Bubbles had a home for seven years and now she's been dumped in a high kill shelter. This girl is a Boxer, one of the most popular breeds. That didn't keep her people from abandoning her. She's nervous at the shelter, that shows how intelligent she is. Bubbles is a good girl that has been deserted by her owners. She still has so many years of love and life ahead of her. Will Bubbles die tomorrow? That depends on whether we can find Bubbles a home tonight. What do you think? Can we save Bubbles? She's counting on us.

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.
For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.

Buttercup's former family had personal problems with devastating results for this sweet Corgi mix. Upon her arrival at the ACC, Buttercup was so scared, she tried to flee during her initial exam. But against all odds, she let her guard down, and earned and impressive AVERAGE on her Safer, scoring ALL 1's and 2's. Buttercup is a family-ready sweetheart, who, at just 37 pounds, is the perfect size for an apartment, or a big home. Mostly, she needs love. Buttercup would likely do well in a multi-pet home, as her surrender sheet indicates that she plays with both dogs and cats! We cannot let Buttercup die in the morning. Advocate for her life right now.
Blue is a gorgeous, solid, young boy who volunteers wold really love to see saved: "Blue got to keep the award red scarf. He is such a good dog and good looking, too. Blue is well built and healthy looking, slightly muscular and wears a gorgeous grey coat with eyes to match. I was hesitant to walk him as he looked so big in his kennel and was worried to be taken for a ride. I was quite surprised to see how well behaved Blue is. He walks well on the leash with minimal or no pulling. He seems housetrained, sits and stays on command, poses for the pictures and is very civil to all other dogs met on our way. A well brought up dog! As it was not enough, Blue is also a number one sweetheart who loves to be hugged and kissed and to smooch on the bench with me. No doubt about it, this friendly big guy will do the same for you. He is really a ham. Blue is at the Manhattan Care Center. Blue is so worth to meet. You will leave with him in your pocket, I bet."
Looking at Zeus' picture you'd think that his 'hang-dog' face reflected a serious kind of guy, right? Wrong! No one is a bigger goof than Zeus and this fun-loving, playful pup was just so happy to be out with and enjoying the winter sunshine. Whether sniffing scents, greeting other dogs or chasing squirrels in the park, Zeus is an enthusiastic lover of life. He is also a lover of treats and like the smart dog he is, will quickly sit for them when asked. As befits a dog named for a god, Zeus is a big, strong boy and though he pulls on the leash when he walks, he responds well to correction. Unlike some dogs, Zeus will walk away from squirrels he has chased without much fuss, who needs squirrels when the whole world is waiting to be explored? With his chunky head, cute underbite and soft profile, this handsome boy could be part mastiff or part lab - who knows what mix made this gorgeous dog the stunner he is? All we know is that Zeus would make anyone proud to stand beside him. See the world afresh by taking a walk with Zeus, and walk him out the front door in the morning. Zeus only has tonight. Please save him.
Prince's brows look perpetually furrowed, and his sweet lopsided ears seem to be waiting for a call that never came. Prince arrived at the ACC as a stray, but we know he was not on the street for two years. He belonged somewhere, sometime. We know nothing of Prince's history, nor the events that brought him through the ACC doors, but we DO know that he must WALK out the front door to safety in the morning. Clearly tense and scared upon arrival, Prince earned an Orange on his medical behavior. He may be wary of strangers poking at his body, he may simply have been hungry, and a little cranky. We simply don't know. We must not judge this young boy, with a lifetime before him, upon his actions in a snapshot of time. Please advocate for Prince tonight. He deserves a second chance at life.

Jenna has been rated New Hope only, but she give a lovely impression to a volunteer who got to spend some time getting to know her. Read what the vol had to say, and help save Jenna tonight:
Wow, how did such a looker fall through the cracks and end up on tomorrow’s kill list? Dozier is an exquisitely beautiful, strawberry-blonde boy of about 1-year of age. His deep honey-colored eyes seem to understand that he’s in dire trouble tonight. Dozier’s been suggested for an experienced dog handler; yet his manners appear admirable. The temperament assessor writes: “Dozier pulls on the leash and was sociable toward the handler during the assessment - soft body, low wag. He was relaxed during handling and was distracted and focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag interaction. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Dozier was easy to handle when chewing on toys and rawhides, but when he approaches the helper dog, body is tense, ears erect, high tail wag.” Poor Dozier arrived at the Brooklyn shelter as a stray and managed to pick up the kennel cough that runs rampant through the shelter dogs. The KC cold is easy and cheap to treat; but no matter, the shelter intends to kill him for catching it. Don't let them get away with that. Advocate for Dozier tonight.
Tonight's list is posted. There are 9 dogs in danger. Please start sharing NOW!!! The shelter closes at 8pm. Go to the ACC website (http://www.nycacc.org/

12/01/2012 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper 949528 Zeus was calm and relaxed during handling. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Zeus did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He was easy to handle when chewing on toys, but was not interested in rawhide. Zeus lunged and tried to bite the friendly dog during the dog- dog assessment. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor's hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (need scoaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1 . Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 4. Dog charges the helper dog while growling and attempting to bite.

Adoption Info and List of Rescues

"Jenna is looking intensely at me from her kennel. She is eager to get out and stretch her legs. Look at me, look at me...pleeease. Jenna is a young girl, an adolescent, muscular and athletic looking despite the fact that she is much too thin. Her paws are big and she has the manners of a youngster, excited, curious and ready for adventure. Jenna pulls a little on the leash, eliminates on the way and seems interested in other dogs met. Although at first a bit aloof and more fascinated by her new surroundings, Jenna progressively became more keen in having a relationship with me. She was also visibly stressed by the turn her life had taken. Jenna came as I called her and settled on my lap. Our eyes met and licks and kisses followed. Her body wiggels, her tail wags. Jenna does everything with passion. She is really full of life and I can only imagine what a fun, loving and playful companion she would be, given a chance."
