The hysteria of gun owners, fearful that someone will take away their weapons, has become fever-pitched and ignores the issues.

Sadly, the NRA has worked to create the hysteria with misinformation and rhetoric that the majority of Americans find offensive.

Va. Tech Shooting Survivor: Obama's Gun Plan a 1st Step, But "We Need a Movement" to Overcome NRA A month after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., President Obama is calling for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. The National Rifle Association says Congress will not get either. Obama's proposal comes as New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed what is being called toughest gun control law in the nation, also drawing an NRA rebuke. We're joined by Colin Goddard, a survivor of the Virginia Tech massacre who now works with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Having just returned from meeting with survivors and their parents in Newtown, Goddard and the Brady Campaign were the first group to meet with Vice President Joe Biden's task force on guns. Debate on Armed Police in Schools: Needed for Kid Safety or Part of the Student-to-Prison Pipeline? As the National Rifle Association pushes for armed guards in every school, we host a debate over what type of security measures should be taken in schools to prevent future tragedies. On Monday, the superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools proposed forming the school system's own police force. We're joined by Sean Burke, president of the School Safety Advocacy Council; and Damon Hewitt, an attorney with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and co-author of The School-to-Prison Pipeline: Structuring Legal Reform. Behind the NRA's Money: Gun Lobby Deepens Financial Ties to $12 Billion Firearms Industry Throughout its history, the National Rifle Association has portrayed itself as an advocate for individual gun owners' Second Amendment rights. But a new investigation finds the group has come to rely on the support of the $12-billion-a-year gun industry -- made up of firearms and ammunition manufacturers and sellers. Since 2005, the NRA has collected as much as $38.9 million from dozens of gun industry giants, including Beretta USA; Glock; and Sturm, Ruger & Co., according to a 2011 study by the Violence Policy Center.
