Gov. Pat McCrory says his policies 'too complex' for journalists to judge
North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has a theory as to why he's been getting so much bad publicity lately. The problem is simply that everyone else is too stupid to understand his genius.
“This is too complex for the journalists,” McCrory said, to laughter from the [Council of Independent Business Owners] members. “They don't have economics degrees, they've not been in business. I respect them greatly, but you get it. This is what we have to do to rebuild our economy. It's not easy. I empathize with the people being impacted, but my goal is to get these people back into jobs.”
McCrory does not appear to have an economics degree himself, which would seem to strike a blow against his own argument. He is also the sort of wise scholar who has, say, previously defended the Republican-led state legislature's voter suppression effort as something worth signing into law despite giving himself the notable handicap of not actually reading it.
While the supposition that the press, the public and for that matter all the other subject matter experts are not intelligent enough to understand the clear wisdom of Republican proposals is a common one, he seems an odd spokesman for the claim. If McCrory wants to claim that his genius is simply too great for people around him to recognize, he should go into a field that more willingly accepts that sort of thing. Art criticism, perhaps.
