Save A Life!

Most animals in shelters will be euthanized. Most of them were someone's pet, a family member, simply dumped or abandoned, many left at High Kill Shelters.

By the time you read this, many will have been euthanized.

If you're considering a furry family members, please consider shelters and rescues first.

Adoption and transportation information available on links or here:

Transporting Rescued Animals - Saving Lives!

Distance should not hinder your decision.

Please support Spay & Neuter programs to reduce this tragedy.

Check back during the day. Will add as posts appear.

*Super Senior* DODGER (A20811158)
Wow, I never thought I'd end up in a scary place like this someday. It's really quite terrifying here! I am a handsome all white boy, surrendered to the shelter by my family because I was old. Hmph. I lived all my 20 years, yes TWENTY years, with them, and now I can't believe how things have turned upside down. My family said that I had good manners, was good with other cats, was still pretty active, and good with children too. I am a bit thin and could use some TLC. I haven't been to the vet in 10 years either. While I put on a brave face from a distance, my fear causes me to act out. I scared the nice volunteer lady because I was hissing and growling at her. You have to understand how difficult it is after 2 decades to end up in a place like this. Can you give me a chance, and a home to live out my days? Some time to relax and settle in, and learn to love and trust again? Please hurry!

There are few things more impressive than a dog that scores a (1) on each and every item of their behavior evaluation. Want to be impressed? Meet nine-year-old Boy! This, well, boy is as good as a dog will ever get. That will, as we all know, NOT guarantee that he makes it out alive, though. So, if you want a truly good pooch in your life, hurry, and foster or adopt Boy!

A volunteer writes:
Boy is a low key little dog, a Beagle mix who was brought to us as a stray. He lays quietly in his kennel, looking around and not asking for anything. He is leashed without fuss and off we go for a walk. Boy seems a little aloof at first and "preoccupied". I get it...He needed to do his business. Once done...he was one loving little chap, tail gently wagging and welcoming caresses.. My lap was to his liking too and we spent some time together , enjoying the calm of the yard. Boy is a smallish little dog, well groomed and "between two ages". he is up and about, friendly and would make a very sweet companion. Boy is at the Manhattan Care Center waiting to be your forever best friend.

A volunteer updates:
Little Muffin looks a little stronger, healthier and better nourished than when he first arrived to the Manhattan Care Center. His coat is flame red and there is a small on his face. Muffin loves to go for walks and one has to be careful opening his kennel. Muffin thins of himself as being Batman. Be ready to catch him or clealy state to him to "hold his horses..". Muffin trots well on the leash and eliminates right away as we leave the building. He does not mark his territory and does not mind the presence of other dogs. He comes when called and sits close to me for petting. He takes treats gently from the hand. Muffin likes to be with "his person". We are so used to each other. No doubt about it, he will love you if your eyes and your heart start to melt for him... Little Muffin is waiting for his chance to start his life all over again with you.

Prince is a senior Mini Poodle who was left behind at high-kill Brooklyn ACC when his uncaring owner decided it was a good idea to move without him. "He is a friendly dog that likes to play around, fetch and loves to be pet," said the owner as he turned their back on Prince. He is housetrained, good with dogs, adults and children. Will you give him a chance at a happy rest-of-his-life?

Freeport, NY Rocky and Gizmo need a new home together. Their mom had to go into a nursing home and they've been at the shelter for months waiting for an adopter. If you have a loving home post on their link.
★★ FREEPORT, NY: OUR MOM had to go to a NURSING HOME and we came to the shelter! It has now been MONTHS and MONTHS that we've been hanging on to one another bu...t had no home or family. We are REALLY EASY GOING -- not high strung at all. We are gentle and get along with other small dogs. We are sweet and so enjoy time with people as well as each other. PLEASE consider sharing your home and heart with us. Oh... our names are ROCKY & GIZMO! ★★

FREEPORT NY (transport available around NE and most of East Coast).

More About Rocky & Gizmo

Rocky and Gizmo: what a perfect little pair of pooches! These little guys are adoptable Chihuahuas, each one weighing about 6 pounds. These sweethearts are older adults (about 8-10 years old), so they are looking for someone with a great big heart to take them home! They have been together their whole little lives, so they must go home together! They had an owner who was elderly herself, and she had to go to a nursing home without them. Rocky and Gizmo are so loyal to each other; they are the most adorable little pair of best friends you have ever seen. If one of these guys gets out to play without the other one, the one who is left cries sweetly while he awaits his brother’s return. It is so sweet, it will make your heart swell to three times its normal size! Despite their age, these little fellas actually love a good walk! Then, after a short stroll, they will spend the rest of the day curled up together napping in a nice warm bed. They are both very quiet, gentle, and even-tempered. They also get along well with other small dogs. Please don't let their age fool you! Chihuahuas are actually the longest-lived dogs, and they can live well into their teen years if well cared for! This little pair of tiny cuties won’t take up much room in your home, so the question is, can you make some room for them in your heart? Give Rocky and Gizmo a happy home, and it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your entire life!

CONTACT: Road to Home Rescue Support: Elyse at 516-236-4376 or NICOLE at 718-715-2633 ; you can email them as well at inforoadtohome@gmail.com for an application

OR ... if you are LOCAL to FREEPORT NY and want to meet them - they are at Bobbi & the Strays Rescue, 2 Rider Place, Freeport NY 11520. BUT PLEASE call ELYSE first to schedule the meeting!
Adoption hours are 11am to 7pm everyday.

I'm always behind posting updates, because we stay so busy here. I don't get to sleep in today, like others in my household:)
But this is what I do & as frustrated as I get somedays (with people not animals) I wish I could do more & that no animal were to ever suffer or die.
This sweet girl stole my heart at animal control & she is no longer on death row at animal control. We are working to get her better, the mange we can fix the scars on her back will forever be a reminder of a less than perfect past. But I promise she will have a wonderful future...

Please call the shelter at 661.940.4191 RIGHT AWAY if you are interested in adopting any of the dogs I post. This shelter is a publicly funded County shelter with a high rate of 'strays' and 'owner turn ins' and therefore considered "high kill". if you are interested in any dogs I have listed, I urge you to immediately get in touch with the shelter for their adoption procedure. I have seen it too many times where dog's have lost their lives because someone waited just ONE day too long... When you are networking, tagging, etc. please know that rescue "Pages" do not get notifications when you 'line-tag' them (highlighting the page's name in a 'comment'). If you want a page to see a dog in need, you must post the link to the dog's thread (highlight/copy what is in your browser) ONTO their actual page or 'tag' them in the actual photo! Only 'people' (non-pages) you line-tag will get notified, providing they have this feature not turned "OFF".
Adoption fees at this shelter are $120 or less. There is a $20 license fee which only applies if you are a local resident. All fees include vaccines, micro chip and spay/neuter. Unaltered dogs are released after their spay/neuter, unless they get a waiver due to age or health.

I don't collect pledges or PM the people who pledged. The person or rescue who saved the animal is responsible for collecting the pledges. I will post a PayPal address or donation information if provided. If you are willing to adopt or have questions on a dog I post, please call the shelter. I have not met ALL dogs I post personally and I can not always call the shelter on every dog to get updates. When I post "no longer listed" this means a dog was either adopted, rescued OR killed. STILL NOT SAFE!

Talk about SWEET! Hershey is about as sweet as they come. He is a very happy go lucky boy that has seemingly been through a lot in his life. Due to an old untreated injury to one of his front legs, he walks with an obvious limp. Don't think it slows him down though! This boy adores going on long walks and getting out to play. He has been introduced to other dogs and cats and didn't seem bothered by either. This boy just loves everyone! He has already been neutered
