PLEASE HELP WALDO
Sadly, the individual offering to provide hospice care for Waldo fell through. Blood tests, radiographs and ultrasound have diagnosed Waldo with canine microhepatica or abnormally small liver. A small liver, microhepatica, in a dog usually indicates the pet is suffering from chronic active hepatitis. This is a progressive inflammation of the dog's liver and leads to all normal liver tissue eventually being replaced by scar tissues. The cause of the disease is not known in many cases, but may be induced by canine hepatitis virus, leptospirosis, other diseases, toxicity from certain drugs, or genetics. Supportive therapy has been initiated along with a special diet. Prognosis is poor; but, his condition may be manageable for some period of time.
Much time was lost because individuals want to know what it will cost to care for Waldo. We don't know. We cannot predict the future. We do not know how long he has to live. He may have years; he may only have months. Anyone interested in the costs associated with caring for Waldo needs to call their own veterinarian to get costs. Anyone interested in Waldo can discuss this information with their veterinarian to determine the possible costs.
All I can tell you for sure is that Waldo is a loving Jack Russell Terrier and a staff favorite, whose time is running out. If you can help, please do. Thank you!
Hospice Care needed for one of YHS' most beloved dogs:
Blood tests, radiographs and ultrasound have diagnosed Waldo with canine microhepatica or abnormally smal...l liver.

A small liver in a dog usually indicates the pet is suffering from chronic active hepatitis. This is a progressive inflammation of the dog's liver and leads to all normal liver tissue eventually being replaced by scar tissue.

Waldo's condition is not contagious. He gets along well with everybody (man and beast) at the shelter, but he is a dying Jack Russell Terrier and a care giver who understands this breed is preferred.

No adoption fee to appropriate able and capable care giver. Ongoing medication and vet visits required and expenses assumed by care giver.

For now his ongoing medical care requires a low protein diet that is also low in fat in order to minimize stress on the liver. He is also on a supplement to support liver function, amoxicillin, metronidazole and prednisone in an attempt to decrease fibrosis and scarring to the liver as well as to combat bacterial overgrowth. As his condition progresses additional medications/supplements may be recommended.

If you have room in your heart to make room in your home for Waldo so he can benefit from your love during his final days please email me at eboks@yavapaihumane.org

UPDATE on KOA from Tennessee Death Row Dogs

Today, after months of healing, heartworm treatment and recovery, I took Koa to Clarksville to take part in a one month board/train program with Curtis Craig at The Calm K9. His transformation is nothing short of astonishing and all of the credit goes to Dr. Vaughn and the wonderful staff at Columbia Hospital for Animals. Koa has stayed with them since the first day that we picked him up and today, just a few mild scars from his horrible past remain. Hundreds of generous, kind dog lovers from across the United States donated towards his care which aided us tremendously in offsetting the costs of the extensive medical needs. Now healthy, healed and heartworm free, Koa started day 1 of learning how to be a normal, well socialized family dog We'll keep everyone updated every step of the way on his progress and we hope afterwards, we can help him find the family he has always yearned for. Thank you supporters, you made this possible!

You can still support TDRD here--->

Check this out, guys! A little #TransformationTuesday post for you: This is what a little love can do for a pet in need. Doesn't this just warm your heart?

Here is "our" before and after pictures of Diamond. He is a kitty my Mommy rescued in May.

This is Chloe , a beautiful blue who was at the shelter in Denver , Colorado , I posted her bail and she is getting spayed today. I will then be giving her a ride to her furever home in Pennsylvania.

Imagine how cute Rocky would be if someone groomed him like Shih-Tzus need to be groomed? This 13-pound guy is currently stuck at Brooklyn ACC and he really doesn't sound like he's been having the time of his life. He needs a chance to prove that he can be a family pooch. Please, share his plea!

Blue

Blue is a sweet pittie boy that was brought into the shelter as a stray whose owner never came to look for him. Blue isn't sure why he is at the shelter and seems to be very timid at first but quickly warms up to you with warm kisses. This sweet boy needs someone who will never betray him again and keep him safe at home where he will never again land himself on a euth list. Will you be his perfect family?

I am an unaltered female, brown brindle and white Chihuahua - Smooth Coated mix.

The shelter staff think I am about 10 years old.

I weigh 8 pounds.

I was found in NY 10473.

I have been at the shelter since Aug 18, 2013.

A staff member writes:
Poochie is a statuesque older lady with a feisty nature and an understandable distrust of strangers. But she is a smart lady. She'll sometimes make allowances for those she doesn't know and, if approached carefully for a walk outside, she is happy to jump into your arms and out of her cage. As far as touch is concerned, she warms up slowly and will initially allow minimal petting for those who are trying their hardest to make friends. In her picture she has a tough little stance, but Poochie can be alternately shy and trembling. As well, she looks much younger than her stated 10 years. A study in contrasts, Poochie is also an interesting brindle color so, if you've always wanted a pit bull but are restricted by size, Poochie the chihuahua is your girl!

***SPECIAL PLEA***
One of our PODR volunteers wrote this: This morning (Aug 21st) I witnessed poor NACHO being surrendered. His "owner" brought him to the shelter in a CARDBOARD BOX, TAPED CLOSED, WITH HOLES POKED IN THE SIDE. When asked to take him out of the box, his "owner" was reluctant to do it because he might "jump out." Well the poor cat was so scared and upset he was HUDDLING in the box and CRYING. It seemed like the "owner" was pained to even hold him while the information was being put in the computer. He was told that if his cat didn't get adopted he will be PUT TO SLEEP and he said OK. He had no difficulty handing him over. Nacho was adopted from ACC 7 years ago only to be DUMPED BACK THERE!!! It is clear that Nacho really HAS NOT KNOWN LOVE LIKE A PET SHOULD. Nacho is very scared in the shelter and rightfully so. He is noted to be "aggressive" during his intake exam but he is SIMPLY SCARED. He is a BIG GUY who is DECLAWED on all 4 PAWS. Please have it in your heart to show this boy the LOVE he DESERVES. PLEASE SHARE HIS STORY.

For the Love of All Animals shared Urgent Part 2 - Urgent Death Row Dogs's photo.
.·´¯`·-❥★❥ RELY, aka JOE ★ CUDDLY, SWEET, and a FRIEND to ALL . . . Oh, and did I say GORGEOUS?! . . . "I don't know about anyone else but some days I wake up feeling completely emotionless and don't really know why," writes a volunteer at Brooklyn ACC. "Well, Rely managed to completely restore all that emotion I was lacking. This guy is perfect in my eyes. I sat in the cuddle spot with him for a few minutes and he just fell backwards soaking it all in. Then I placed him in the run and all he wants is to be near you. Another small dog approached the run and he was all waggles. His owner surrender notes say he is good with cats and dogs. As I was leaving, a family approached and I introduced them to Rely. The little girl showed her hand to him and he just licked it gently. I really cant express how great this dog is. He is already coughing, so he'll likely be on the list soon and out of public view until then. Please, lets save Rely. This boy is going to make some family extremely happy."
Please share Rely everywhere, and if you'd like to be the lucky one to take him home with you, just click on his pic for all info on how to foster or adopt. Just ask for help if you need it and someone will be along shortly. Please hurry, even perfect pups don't last long at Brooklyn ACC. ~

Bell and Anna

These two sweet siblings were surrendered to the shelter when their owners could no longer care for them. They are confused and unsure of how they went from a home to a loud and confusing shelter. Both girls are said to be around a year old and are border collie/lab mixes. These girls need someone to step up and save their lives fast as the shelter is nearing capacity and their lives are literally on the line. Let's work together and help find a home where they will not only be safe but will be able to stay together.

For more information on adopting from the NYC AC&C, or to find a rescue to assist, please read the following: http://urgentpetsondeathrow.org/must-read/

For more info on behavior codes and ratings, please read here: https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=283116538381555

For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their inbox and causing REAL adopter emails to go unnoticed.

DUMPING A SENIOR?
15 Year Cocker Dumped by Family at very High Kill Lancaster Shelter. Reason: didn't have time for him. Said he doesn't know how to walk on leash, may need obedience training class. ARE YOU FRICKING KIDDING ME?

http://animalcare.lacounty.gov/wps/portal/acc/our_animals/detail?animalID=A4624097
My name is Fifi and I'm an approximately 15 year old male cocker span. I am ...not yet neutered. I have been at the Lancaster Animal Care Center since August 26, 2013. I am available on August 26, 2013. You can visit me at my temporary home at L725.

My former family who owned me for more than 5 years had to give me up because they did not have enough time to spend with me. But they said that I have not learned how to walk on a leash. I may need obedience class. I seem to get along well with dogs.

URGENT!!! Out of time!! frightened but sweet pup!

Spent some time with this sweet girl Sunday, she is very gently but scared. Her behavior indicates she wasn't treated so nicely in her past but she was quiet and moved carefully and even gave me small kisses. I worry she will go unnoticed at the shelter but she deserves a good loving home to help her to feel safe again. Friends of Paz (non-affiliated supporters of the South LA Animal Shelter)
