To say this to most of you is preaching to the choir. But please share with your "friends" who brag proudly about where they "bought" their puppy.

Most animals in shelters will be euthanized. Most of them were someone's pet, a family member, simply dumped or abandoned, many left at High Kill Shelters.

By the time you read this, many will have been euthanized.


If you're considering a furry family members, please consider shelters and rescues first.

Adorable Lulu was picked up by an animal control officer in Orange County, California. Her face was so swollen, they immediately took her to the emergency vet so she could be monitored for the night. While at the emergency clinic, they took blood samples, put in a catheter, gave her IV fluids, x-rayed her and did surgery to put a drain in her little face to try to help the swelling go down. The swelling is so bad it has caused her little nose to be pushed off to the side and her breathing ability has to be monitored.

Kern Shelter ... CLOSING....
Below are some protocols that we have put in place to help make your job of saving lives a little bit easier.
1) Starting Sunday, September 1st and running through Monday, September 30th, Kern County Animal Control will be waiving all microchipping and rabies vaccination fees for rescue animals.
2) Our medical staff will be evaluating each animal that is on any form of medication at the time of rescue and, when possible, we will dispense the mediation to the rescue.
3) We are reducing our adoption fees at the shelter (dogs are just $15 and cats are just $5 to adopt) in order to help with adoptable animal placement as well....
4) We are temporarily extending the rescue hours to the following:

Monday 8AM - 5PM
Tuesday 8AM - 5PM
Wednesday 11AM - 7PM
Thursday 8AM - 5PM
Friday 8AM - 5PM
Saturday 8AM - 5PM
Sunday 8AM - 5PM

We encourage you to share this information with any Rescue Partners, animal advocates, networkers or other rescuers to help promote our animals and to save as many lives as possible.See More

One can only spend time with Oprah and speculate about her life.....she is a bit overweight, looks like she has had a few litters, has incredibly long nails that click as she walks, has bowed/twisted legs that might be because of arthritis, or some injury that was never addressed, has a graying muzzle and red rimmed eyes.....She is able to walk, albeit slowly, and spends time pacing up and down at the backyard fence looking out at the street.....is she looking for her people, looking back at her youth, looking for a better life....again, one can only speculate......She flinches slightly when touched, but accepts some petting although does not seek it out...... She accepts other dogs near her with no overt reaction, even a little feisty puppy play bowing to her.....I watch her stand at the fence gazing out and wonder what she is thinking.......this girl has lived a long life, but I can't help but wonder at the quality of that life.... Oprah demonstrated some resource guarding in her behavior assessment, but as far as I am concerned, this girl has earned the right to protect her 'stuff'. Oprah would love a home in which to enjoy the remainder of her years, with quiet, with respect, and with everything that is due a senior for a life lived........how big is your heart?

Urgent Ohio Dogs

UPDATE DIXIE SAFE & DIXIE ADOPTED!

Ginger and Dixie are located in a facility that does not allow volunteers. They are in their cage all day long. They have to eat and sleep probably in their own urine and feces until their cage is cleaned. The only time they will be able to fully leave their cage when they are adopted, rescued, or killed. Ginger had a potential adopter yesterday, but we have not heard anything. That is so tragic if they did not come for her and now she has to spend the long weekend still at the pound. Please help share!!!
