Make A Difference!

Most animals in shelters will be euthanized. Most of them were someone's pet, a family member, simply dumped or abandoned, many left at High Kill Shelters. By the time you read this, many will have been euthanized.

If you're considering a furry family members, please consider shelters and rescues first.

Adoption and transportation information available on links or here:

Let's work to change this tragedy!

CELLA is an adorable, sweet 1 y/o pittie who is stuck at Devore Shelter (San Bernardino, CA). This scared girl is getting sick with an upper respiratory infection. Getting sick should not be a death sentence for this girl, but she is highly likely to be on tomorrow's euth list (Monday 9/9) unless someone comes to save her. She needs adopter/foster/rescue/pledges. If you can help in any way, click on her picture and post on her album thread.

This Dog Was Shown Unimaginable Cruelty - But She Was Given a Miracle

Hope was found on the side of the road, tortured and dying. A cruel stranger taped her mouth shut, strung out her tongue and cut her. When she was found, no one knew what happened... but she then underwent an amazing transformation. God bless her rescuers!

Dan - Redbone Coonhound
Highland County - Hillsboro, OH (bs)
Ok Dan really makes me cry. This sweet guy has been at the shelter for 10 years!!! My heart b...reaks for this poor older gentleman! He has arthritis and look at where he is sleeping! Not even a comfy bed for him!! Please, I am BEGGING today....let's get this guy a great home before the cold weather comes. Share this one with all your contacts.

Hi my name is Dan. I am 14 years old and I've been at the shelter with all these whippersnappers for 10 years. I'm looking for my retirement home. I don't need much. I really just want a nice warm quiet place to enjoy life. I'm housebroken. I keep my kennel very clean and never soil it. I would love to have a soft comfy bed to rest my old bones on. It would be nice to rest in a quiet place. I want to live in a home free from children. I've seen plenty of those in here. Oh I don't mind if they visit as long as there is a room I can stay in away from them. They just worry me with all their fast movements. I would also prefer to be the only dog. I've been sharing my space with other dogs for many years and I'm ready to just enjoy the peace and quiet without some young dog wanting to play all the time. I don't need a lot of exercise, a short walk or a trip around a fenced in yard a few times a day would be great.

Dan needs to be an inside dog. He has arthritis so being outside in the weather and on the ground is too hard for him. He is extremely clean and will not mess in your house. He also cannot be let out without a leash or fenced in area as his coonhound instincts are still strong. He is a sweet old boy who won't give you trouble. He is elderly so he does not like being bothered by children or dogs.

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

Maggie

Maggie is such a sweet girl! I had the chance to spend some time with Maggie this past week and it was all I could do not to bring this baby home with me! Maggie is a little bit on the heavier side but it isn't anything that is too severe, she just enjoys her food Maggie came in as a stray and we are shocked that her family hasn't come looking for her as her nails were perfectly trimmed and she looked as if she had recently been groomed. She is a very sweet and loving girl and is quickly becoming the pounds favorite. Please share Maggie and help her find her new family so she can spend the rest of her years only knowing love.

Hi! My name is Woobie, and I am a five-year-old Maltese boy, weighing 12 pounds.

I am very affectionate and my favorite hobby is sitting quietly with my human....

I am fine with dogs and cats, but being held by my person is still the best thing in the world.

My foster mom says I am such a good dog that I can even be walked without a leash when it's safe to do so.

I am altered, UTD on my vaccinations, microchipped and heartworm-tested negative.

If I sound like the best friend you've been missing from your life, please, fill out an application (http://poshpetsrescue.org/applications/) and send it to Linda at MsLondonspets@aol.com ASAP.

Please, share me!

Brooklyn Center ...

My name is BERNARD. My Animal ID # is A0976729.
I am a male white and brown pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 1 YEAR 1 MONTH old.

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 08/25/2013 from NY 11208, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

09/04/2013 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Bernard is one sweet animal and good looking too. I was delighted to have him by my side, as we walked. With his large bone structure and paws, his white and brown coat, he's quite the looker. Bernard is such a happy personality, posing willingly for the camera, with what I call, "One happy doggie smile." I laughed and felt glee, that only a doggie like this can do, I'm sure, he'll make any dog owner happy from the get go. I believe that this doggie is house broken, doing his business, just where it was meant to be done. He also seems to like other animals, at least, all of the animals we came across in and out of the center. Bernard did pull some, but nothing a good trainer couldn't get in hand, with firm teaching from a gentle hand. This doggie is only 1 year old, so it's prime time to think of adopting him, because none of his habits are carved in stone. Why not come into our Brooklyn Care Center today and meet with Bernard? No doubt, this doggie would love to meet, come home, and become your family doggie and companion for the rest of his life. I think, this just may be the best decision you've ever made.

North Carolina: Ban Cruel, Archaic Gas

Chambers to Kill Homeless Pets in Shelters

  1. Larissa Tuttle
  2. Petition by
    Mission Viejo, United States
Please support H. Res. 736 to stop, cruel archaic gassing homeless pets in the United States! http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-113hres208ih/pdf/BILLS-113hres208ih.pdf
Many people think that animals quietly go to sleep and die in shelter gas chambers. But the reality is it’s a horrific and cruel method of “euthanasia.” The animals are placed in a warm or hot box without sedation. They have no idea what is happening to them and are terrified. The hiss of gas starts and they get dizzy and panic. Screams are heard and fights break out. In some pounds, cats are mixed in with dogs, small dogs are mixed in with large dogs, and they all fight each other for the last breath of air. The 25 or more minutes it takes to end their lives can be complete torture.
Historically, this inhumane method of killing was used by the Nazis, and to this day is not allowed even for the punishment of our most severe serial killers. Yet they can still be legally used to kill innocent homeless pets, including cats and dogs, in many states. And if you live in one of the gassing states, your tax dollars might be paying for this atrocity.
What Congressman Moran Says about Animal Gas Chambers
“Using gas chambers to kill shelter animals is unnecessarily cruel, causing these animals to suffer in the last moments of their life. This resolution would bring more attention to this unacceptable practice,” said Rep. Moran. “With the continued advocacy of compassionate citizens, I hope we can stamp out this inhumane practice.”
http://moran.house.gov/press-release/moran-introduces-resolution-opposing-euthanasia-animal-shelters
What Animal Organizations Say About Gassing
American Humane Association has stated, “…euthanizing shelter animals by carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide is inhumane to the animal and harmful to humans. American Humane Association considers euthanasia by injection (EBI) to be the only acceptable and humane means of euthanasia for all shelter animals.” Source: http://www.americanhumane.org/animals/stop-animal-abuse/advocacy/campaigns/stop-gassing-campaign.html
The Humane Society of the United States stated, "Carbon monoxide (CO) gas is, without question, an unacceptable method of euthanasia in states where shelters can legally obtain and administer sodium pentobarbital." Source: http://www.animalsheltering.org/resource_library/policies_and_guidelines/statement_on_euthanasia.html
The Association of Shelter Veterinarians has stated, "...the use of carbon monoxide for individual or mass companion animal euthanasia in shelters is unacceptable due to significant humane, operational and safety concerns."
Please read their document available online at: http://www.sheltervet.org/associations/4853/files/CO%20Position%20Statement.pdf
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has recently stated that they no longer recommend gas for routine euthanasia of cats and dogs.

This outdated and cruel practice demands public outcry. Please be the voice for the voiceless and innocent shelter animals. They did nothing wrong and have already had the misfortune of losing their homes, getting lost, or suffering living as a stray. It could be your lost pet next…

Please sign this petition and tell politicians to stop archaic gassing homeless pets in North Carolina!
