Israel Bombs Gaza Ambulance As Friday Death Toll Surpasses 60
By Ma'an News Agency

http://www.countercurrents.org/maan010814.htm

An Israeli airstrike hit an ambulance and killed a paramedic Friday afternoon as Israel stepped up its bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip following the collapse of a ceasefire earlier in the day. Palestinian medical sources said that paramedic Atef Zamili was killed in an airstrike on his vehicle and that seven passengers were wounded. Zamili's death brings to 16 the number of health workers who have been killed in Israeli strikes since the beginning of the assault 25 days ago. This is third 13th ambulance to be targeted in an Israeli attack, according to the ministry of health

Truce Crumbles, Violence Resumes In Gaza
By Jon Queally

http://www.countercurrents.org/cc010814.htm

Hopes for a 72-hour humanitarian cease fire in the Gaza Strip were dashed on Friday only a few hours after the truce was scheduled to take effect. Renewed Israeli shelling resulted in the death of an estimated 40 Palestinians by midday and one Israeli soldier was reported captured and others killed after an IDF unit was engaged by Hamas soldiers inside Gaza

Guess Who Cheers When Cease-Fires Collapse
By David Swanson

http://www.countercurrents.org/swanson010814.htm

Among those who cheer when a cease-fire ends and killing resumes are those who want more Palestinians slaughtered as a form of mass punishment for fictional offenses. Also among those cheering are certain mainstream U.S. newspaper columnists. In fact, at least one person is clearly in both of the above categories

Gaza has turned from the world's biggest concentration camp to the world's biggest graveyard

Understanding Israel’s War As Racist Is Crucial To Ending Occupation
By Sonali Kolhatkar

http://www.countercurrents.org/kolhatkar010814.htm

The nearly month-long attack by Israeli forces on Gaza has revealed that anti-Arab racism permeates many levels of Israeli society. Indeed, to acknowledge Palestinians as humans worthy of a state, a home and basic necessities such as medical care, electricity, food and water, would undermine the brutality of Operation Protective Edge

Gaza Genocide And Arab Fratricide
By Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich

http://www.countercurrents.org/ulrich010814.htm

Never has the world witnessed so much impunity. The United Nations refuses to acknowledge genocide and takes no part in preventing or punishing it. The silence of those guarding our rights and our laws makes them the silent partners in this crime against humanity. As Jonathan Swift said: “ “I never wonder to see men wicked, but I often wonder to see them not ashamed.”

Anti-Semitism: The Ultimate Zionist Weapon
By William Hanna

http://www.countercurrents.org/hanna010814.htm

The continued use of “anti-Semitism” as a weapon against its critics — even to the extent of the recent invention of a “New anti-Semitism” — is essential for the survival of Zionism because it serves to deflect attention from the lying, cheating, stealing, murdering, war profiteering, blatant violations of international law, and barbaric crimes against humanity

The Experts' Verdict: Every Israeli Missile Strike Is A War Crime
By Jonathan Cook

http://www.countercurrents.org/cook010914.htm

When are we going to hear HRW or the United Nation's Navi Pillay stop talking about proportionality or Israel's potential war crimes, and admit Israel is committing war crimes by definition – right now, as you read this

Bangladesh Labor: Seized Machine, Hungry Garments And Bloodied Strawberry
By Farooque Chowdhury

http://www.countercurrents.org/chowdhury010814.htm

Hunger strike and seizure of machines by garments workers in and near Dhaka, the Bangladesh capital, during the last part of July 2014 were part of Bangladesh labor action that is moving unabated through experiences of gains and failures. In distant Greece, labor from Bangladesh witnessed a court verdict that further bloodied already bloody strawberries. The incidents once again confirmed the dominating reality: dominance of capital. The incidents, on the opposite, also showed an emerging reality: labor’s increasing action

Goals of The New Way: Unity in Diversity
By Graham Peebles

Ideological, systemic change which places sharing, sustainability and cooperation not competition and abundance at its heart; cultivates tolerance, and encourages individuality not conformity, will help to break up the ‘Atomised Society', building trust and social unity; unity rich with individual diversity

Postcard From The End of America : Tri-Cities
By Linh Dinh

http://www.countercurrents.org/dinh010814.htm

With its endless strip malls, much of Kennewick is rather nondescript, but it does have a dignified historical downtown. After an excellent lunch in Andy's, a diner where older folks can cheerfully annoy the Mexican waitresses with long winded tales about their grandkids or great grandkids, I decided to walk into Parkade, and it was there that I met Jack
