The Right to VOTE!

The Universal Right to VOTE set this nation apart!

We have endured Jim Crow Laws, Gerrymandering and much else designed to prevent Americans from voting.

SCOTUS made a politically motivated decision that requires correction to protect those rights.

The email petition below is from Common Cause....Please join with others, add your name and share!

The Voting Rights Act has brought millions of Americans fully into our democracy since President Johnson signed it on Aug. 6, 1965.

But as we mark the 49th anniversary of this landmark achievement this week, the fundamental rights it protected and advanced are again under siege.

Tell Congress that’s unacceptable. Sign our petition for passage of the Voting Rights Amendment Act.

The Supreme Court’s decision last year in Shelby County v. Holder gutted the Voting Rights Act and invited states to erect new barriers to voting, effectively denying power to some Americans in order to strengthen the hold on power enjoyed by others.

Numerous states already have implemented laws requiring voters to show specific types of photo IDs at the polls, IDs many voters of color don’t have and can’t readily obtain. Other new laws limit early voting, and curb Election Day Registration – restrictions designed to suppress turnout.

These new laws and practices are dampening our most cherished constitutional right.

But we can fix that.

By passing the Voting Rights Amendment Act, a bill with bipartisan support, our country can ensure that all elections are fair and accessible to every citizen.

Sign the petition today.

Thanks for all you do,

PETITION: Enact the Voting Rights Amendment Act Now!

Vote

This month marks the 49th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act; it should be cause for celebration.

But when the Supreme Court, in Shelby Co. v. Holder, gutted the legislation last year, it got rid of a powerful tool to end discrimination at polling places. Many states and localities across the country are now enacting and implementing practices that work to discourage or prevent voting by low-income citizens – many of them people of color.

Today we must move forward. We must end the bad practices, and uphold our American values of opportunity for all.

Stand with the millions of Americans who believe it’s time for Congress to pass the Voting Rights Amendment Act – a law with a modern and more flexible approach to stopping discrimination at polling places.

Sign your name below. Join in telling Congress and our state legislators to pass the Voting Rights Amendment Act and protect the right to vote at every level!
