CounterCurrents: Please Support Standing Rock Sioux for the long-haul, Changing Hearts And Opening Minds—It Happens When We Listen

Dear Friend,

America is waking up to the Trump menace. A Federal Judge issued a nationwide injunction against Trump's muslim travel ban. A silver lining in this age of darkness.

Meanwhile, Trump continues with his CEO style actions, even betraying his own electorate. On Friday Trump signed another executive order handing the U.S. economy "back over to Wall Street". According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump signed executive orders Friday "establish[ing] a framework for scaling back the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial-overhaul law" and rolling back an Obama-era regulation requiring advisers on retirement accounts to work in the best interests of their clients."The Wall Street bankers against whom Trump ran are making policy now," said Robert Weissman, president of watchdog group Public Citizen. This sets the stage for Wall Street/Bankster control of economy in far more deeper way.

With Trump declaring a war on the water protectors at Standing Rock, it's time for us to show our love, care and solidarity to those heroic protectors of our mother earth. Emily Spence narrates a story from her own life and calls on us to pitch in with whatever support we can to help them prepare for the long-haul.

Teesta Setalvad and Javed Anand are heroic fighters for justice, human dignity and communal harmony in India. They are being victimised by the present regime for their courageous fight to bring justice to the victims and survivors of 2002 Gujarat pogrom in which more than one thousand muslims were massacred. Now government has slapped a criminal case against them. It is naked political vindictiveness. It is time for all people who value human rights and right to life to stand up for them.

And also more stories from around the world.

If you don't mind, and if you think the content of this news letter is critical for the dignified living and survival of humanity and other species on earth, please forward it to your friends and spread the word. It's time for humanity to come together as one family! You can subscribe to our news letter herehttp://www.countercurrents.org/news-letter/.

by Jon Queally

A federal judge in Washington state issued a nationwide injunction late Friday against President Donald Trump’s controversial executive order on immigration—widely denounced as a travel ban targeting Muslims and refugees from war-torn states—that stirred airport protests across the U.S. last weekend and dozens of lawsuits and legal challenges throughout the week.

Trump Issues Orders To Roll Back Bank Regulations
by Barry Grey

President Donald Trump signed executive directives on Friday initiating a sweeping rollback of regulations on banks and financial brokers enacted under the Obama administration following the Wall Street crash of 2008. Trump’s actions target in particular the 2010 Dodd-Frank bank regulations and a Labor Department rule set to take effect in April requiring financial advisers to put the interests of retired clients before their own monetary rewards.

Trump Apartheid America Exempts Anglo Five-Eyes 6% But Not 94% Of Humanity From Racist Travel Bans

Citizens of the mostly White  Anglo Five-Eyes intelligence-sharing club (US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) are 6% of Humanity and are exempt from racist Trump’s anti-Muslim travel bans which apply to the remaining 94% of mostly non-White Humanity encompassing 188 of the 193 members of the UN. Apartheid South Africa at least allowed Japanese as “Honorary Whites”. Humanity’s 94% must boycott Apartheid America, the Apartheid Anglosphere 6% as well as US-backed, genocide-based    Apartheid Israel.

Changing Hearts And Opening Minds—It Happens When We Listen
by Sarah van Gelder

“How do I speak to neighbors who are Trump supporters?” one person asked at a packed book event at Powell’s City of Books in Portland. Another person asked, “What do I do with the anger I’m experiencing every day?” I thought about the responses of Standing Rock water protectors to the multi-state, heavily armed police force there to protect the pipeline and its investors. Water protectors have little besides their bodies and public support. And prayer.

Please Help Sioux In Water And Climate Change Protection!
by Emily Spence

http://www.countercurrents.org/2017/02/04/please-help-sioux-in-water-and-climate-change-protection/

The Sioux are going to have to be in the fray for the long-haul. We are going to have to support them for the long-haul. Are we up to it? Have you any ideas about ways that we can assist? How can I find the sort of help for my own efforts to serve the Sioux? Have you contacts? If so, please share! I want a truck, a driver and finances for the effort. I want others , who can assist in other ways.

A Universal ‘Trump – Style’ Revolution or End of World Scenario?
by Irwin Jerome

So, now it’s up to Canada’s First Nation peoples to resume the Sioux’s prayers and chants. How will Canada’s Liberal Government, its Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and the Canadian people respond to their fresh pleas? Will Canada come up with a ‘Final Solution’ to their own XL, Trans-Mountain, #3 Pipeline problems, and PM Trudeau duly fall in-line with President Trump’s vision for the future? Or will Trudeau and the Canadian people demonstrate the courage to go their own way? What of other countries in the New World like Australia who, by and large, already is on Trump’s climate change denial, greed-based wavelength? Will they hear in time the morning cries of their Kookaburra Clan or will they passively accept the demise of their Great Barrier Reef and the critical part it plays in Planet Earth’s ability to sustain itself; solely for the mundane sake of mining and shipping still more coal and fossil fuels to China

Criminal Case Against Teesta Setalvad And Javed Anand Is Political Vindictiveness
by K P Sasi

http://www.countercurrents.org/2017/02/04/criminal-case-against-teesta-setalvad-and-javed-anand-is-political-vindictiveness/

The need for the hour is for all secular groups, parties and individuals, all human rights organisations and minority groups, womens’ groups and all civil society groups to defend the human rights violation of a human rights defender called Teesta Setalvad. If the civil society cannot defend the human rights of a human rights defender, then fascism is the only answer for this country.

Corruption In Bangladesh: Perceptions vs. Reality
by Taj Hashmi

http://www.countercurrents.org/2017/02/04/corruption-in-bangladesh-perceptions-vs-reality/

Officially, as per Transparency International’s (TI’s) Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), Bangladesh in 2016 was the 15th most corrupt country in the world, 2nd most corrupt in South Asia. In view of the unprecedented level of corruption in Bangladesh, and the alarming rise in the number of organized violations of human rights of ordinary people, politicians, intellectuals, journalists, women, and members of minority communities, it’s time to assert that: a) there’s a wide gap between perceptions and ground reality of corruption in the country

25 Years Of New Middle Women
by Moin Qazi

http://www.countercurrents.org/2017/02/04/25-years-of-new-middle-women/

Given an opportunity to fight hunger and poverty, a poor woman turns out to be a better fighter than a poor man. It has been our experience that poor women have the intense drive to move up; they are hardworking, concerned about their human dignity, concerned about their children’s present and future, and willing to make personal sacrifices for the well-being of their children’
