CounterCurrents: The real face of Scott Pruitt, the new EPA chief,

Dear Friend,

More than 2,350 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or greater rocked Oklahoma between 2010 and 2016, making the state the most seismically active in the U.S., outpacing even California. It was directly linked to fracking,  yet former Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, who was confirmed to head the EPA, did nothing to discourage well injections while soaking in hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from industry polluters. State officials know the science, but oil revenue drives the state; disposal-well operators are still applying for approval of new injection sites. Meanwhile, Oklahoma residents are getting impatient.

When 'Fascism in America' is a discussion topic world wide, it would be interesting to look back in history and how Norway withheld fascism. George Lakey writes "The key to avoiding fascism? An organized left with a strong vision and broad support."

Muthanga struggle was a milestone in the Adivasi land struggles in Kerala. Fourteen years have passed since ‘Muthanga’ became a lesson for people’s movements in Kerala.

Also many stories from around the world on a variety of topics.

What Permaculture Can Teach Us About Commons
by David Bollier

As a developed set of social practices, techniques and ethical norms, permaculture has a lot to say to the world of the commons.  This is immediately clear from reading the twelve design principles of permaculture that David Holmgren enumerated in his 2002 book Permaculture: Principles and Practices Beyond Sustainability.  It mentions such principles as “catch and store energy,” “apply self-regulation and accept feedback,” “produce no waste,” and “design from patterns to details.”

“Muthanga, 19/2” – A Milestone In Land Struggles In Kerala
by K M Seethi

http://www.countercurrents.org/2017/02/19/muthanga-192-a-milestone-in-land-struggles-in-kerala/

Muthanga struggle was a milestone in the Adivasi land struggles in Kerala. Fourteen years have passed since ‘Muthanga’ became a lesson for people’s movements in Kerala. Today, the Adivasi land movement initiated under the Adivasi Gothra Maha Sabha (AGMS) is split between two factions, with C.K. Janu, the iconic leader of the Muthanga struggle in the 1990s joining hands with the BJP-led coalition of NDA and M. Geethanandan, another frontline leader challenging CK Janu’s ‘politics of desertion.’
