CounterCurrents, : Stand Up for Teesta Setalvad, To My Fellow Climate Scientists: Be Human, Be Brave, Speak Truth

Dear Friend,

Travellers from 7 Muslims can breathe easy for now. US appeals court rejected a stay on the enforcement of Trump travel ban.

Teesta Setalvad, who fights for the victims and survivors of the 2002 Gujarat genocide is under attack again. Priti Gulati Cox has come up with a poster depicting her plight. Please make use of the poster anyway you like to spread awareness about the victimisation of Teesta Setalvad.

Truth is the most abused word of 2016 and 'Post-Truth',  an illicit child was born. With Climate deniers in the White House, climate scientists are under severe pressure against speaking the truth, which is the most vital thing in our age. Peter Kalmus asks his fellow scientists to speak from the heart.

In a dog eat dog world who are the real winners and losers? asks Sally Dugman . An interesting read.

Money is a complex thing. Lord Rothschild reportedly said "Give me control of a nation's money and I care not who makes the laws." Yes, money is the nodal point of our economic system and who makes profit from this system? I hope you know that. Don't we have an alternative? Matthew Slater co-author of    "Money & Society" says another world is possible based on collaboration and trust.

And also more stories from around the world.

If you don't mind, and if you think the content of this news letter is critical for the dignified living and survival of humanity and other species on earth, please forward it to your friends and spread the word. It's time for humanity to come together as one family! You can subscribe to our news letter here

US Appeals Court Bars Enforcement Of Trump Travel Ban
by Patrick Martin

A three-judge Appeals Court panel issued a unanimous ruling Thursday afternoon rejecting the Trump administration’s claim of “unreviewable” presidential power and sustaining a judicial order that bars enforcement of Trump’s temporary ban on travel from seven Muslim-majority countries, as well as his temporary ban on the entry of refugees from any country.

The Indomitable Teesta Under Attack….Again
by Priti Gulati Cox

Now Teesta and her husband/coworker Javed Anand are being brought up on charges themselves for allegedly violating the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). The charges, forcefully denied by Teesta and Javed, were clearly meant as retaliation for their pursuit of justice for Gujarat, among other grassroots issues.

A Money System For The People – If We Want It
by Matthew Slater

Taking responsibility for our own finances takes effort yes, but probably less than feeding a parasite! With money no longer scarce, competition (for money) gives way to collaboration. Collaborative credit implies that everybody’s promise has equivalent value, which in economics is called fungibility, an important property of money. Because every credit is balanced by an equal and opposite debit, aggregate supply and demand in the system are perfectly balanced by design. The simplicity and elegance of the exchange paradigm makes neoliberal economics look like the blind leading the blind up an alley without a paddle!

The Plight Of 18.8 Million War-Torn Yemenis
by Abdus Sattar Ghazali

The United Nations and humanitarian organizations Wednesday (February 8) launched an international appeal for $2.1 billion to provide humanitarian assistance to 18.8 million Yemenis. This is more than two thirds of the total population of 27.4 million of the war-devastated Yemen. At least 12 million people in Yemen need life-saving assistance in 2017, the UN sources said.

To My Fellow Climate Scientists: Be Human, Be Brave, Speak Truth
by Peter Kalmus

With climate deniers sweeping into the White House, it’s time for scientists on the front lines of climate change to speak from the heart.

How Powerful Could We Be If We Agree To Stand Our Ground On Our Treaty Land
by Ladonna Bravebull Allard

Our ancestors did not abandon the Pȟežísla Wakpá (the Little Bighorn River), when we last unified the Oceti Sakowin and defended our land from the Seventh Calvary; we too must not abandon Mni Sose (the Missouri River). We must not sell our people’s blood, land, and water to uphold the dysfunction we live under now. We have no choice but to break the cycle of trauma so our future generations can have a better life. I believe it starts with the water and ends with the water. Water is life.  Will you stand with us?

The West Must Learn To Love And Rebel
by Andre Vltchek

The empire wants people to think, but think in a way it programs them to do. It wants them to analyze, but only by using its methods. And it wants people to discard, even reject their natural instincts and emotions.

Australia Welcomes Genocidal Racist And Serial War Criminal Netanyahu
by Dr Gideon Polya

By inviting serial war criminal Netanyahu to Australia and to address the Australian Federal Parliament,  a  pro-Apartheid Australia is thumbing its nose at both humanity and one-person-one-vote democracy and publicly registering its fervent de facto support for Apartheid Israel’s huge crimes against  Humanity.

Beware Of Alt-Facts: What’s Bhagat Singh Got To Do With Valentine’s Day?
by Saurav Kumar

On eve of Valentine’s Day, these forces spread a rumor that on 14th February 1931, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged by British government. And we celebrate this day as Valentine’s Day! Isn’t it surprising and condemning? The zealots went ahead to spread this misinformation through Wikipedia, the preferable web dictionary for the net savvy, to know who is who and what is what. According to a news report in The Hindu, “the Wikipedia page on Bhagat Singh underwent many editing changes on February 13 and 14, Valentine’s Day”. The date of hanging had been changed from 23rd March 1931 to 14th Feb 1931”. And it was due to such propaganda that an international news website, reported, “While the whole world observes 14th Feb as Valentine’ day, not many remember that the day was also when Indian freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru were hanged to death by Britishers”.

Mahila Shakti Kendras: Yet Another Well Worded    Scheme, With No Teeth
by Neha Saigal

I am afraid that the Finance Minister’s proposal and allocation of INR 500 Cr to the Mahila Shakti Kendra for 14 lakh AWCs failed to convince at so many levels.

Where Is The Tamil Pride Now?
by Rahul Pandey

The Tamil pride which entire country witnessed last month is missing. If they can stage protest to protect their culture then they should definitely come up for their future as well.
