Dear Friend,
The Trump machine is acting fast against the weakest and marginalised sections of the society without losing time. In the process they are putting our own lives in peril. A case in point is the attack on the water protectors at Standing Rock. With assistance from the National Guard, police raided a protest camp in Cannon Ball, North Dakota near the Dakota Access pipeline (DAPL) site on February 1, evicting and arresting seventy-six protesters opposed to the completion of the pipeline. At about 4 pm, a convoy of bulldozers, Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles, and Long Range Acoustic Device sound cannons descended upon the protests camp. The protesters were forcibly removed from the camp and arrested, and the camp was razed.
On the other hand, the US Congress took its first legislative action of the new congressional term on behalf of the corporate elite, as the Senate voted by 54-45 to pass a resolution rescinding the Stream Protection Rule adopted by the Department of the Interior in December. The rule restricts the dumping of waste by coal companies engaged in a technique known as “mountaintop removal.”
Trump the CEO is treating world leaders like the employees of the Trump Empire. Australian Prime Minister was humiliated by Trump the other day. As a warning to other world leaders, the White House leaked the information too. According to the details first published by the Washington Post yesterday, Trump fumed at Turnbull for asking him to honour an Obama administration refugee-swapping deal with Australia. In line with his demonisation of refugees, Trump labelled it “the worst deal ever” and accused Turnbull of trying to export the “next Boston bombers” to the US. He even abruptly cut off the call!
Hey, demagogues have a pattern in their action? President Donald Trump threatened to revoke federal funding to the University of California at Berkeley, one of the top public research institutions in the United States, following a protest Wednesday night by thousands of students against Milo Yiannopoulos, the extreme right-wing editor of Breitbart News. Yiannopoulos had been invited by the campus Republicans to speak at the university. We have seen it many universities across India after the Right Wing demagogue Narendra Modi assumed power. They are even trying to dismantle the back bone of Indian higher education system, the UGC (University Grants Commission)
Donald Trump is being promoted as a champion of the fight against globalisation! Isn't their a contradiction? He made all his billions through the very process. Should the Left fall in line? Alex Jensen has a case in point when he says, "Should the left make common cause with those on the right when it comes to opposing globalization, irrespective of our profound opposition to the rest of the rightist agenda? Can we hold our noses and engage with this strange bedfellow to slay our ‘common’ foe, globalization? I do not think so. Not only is right-wing anti-globalization based on a deeply flawed and internally incoherent analysis, more importantly the political expediency of the implicit message – “as long as you join us in opposing corporate free trade treaties, your xenophobia, racism et al. can be temporarily ignored and tacitly tolerated” – is noxious and inexcusable."
And also more stories from around the world.

In what appears to have been a calculated leak from the highest echelons of the White House, US President Donald Trump reportedly “blasted” Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull during a phone call last weekend and then abruptly cut off the call.

How Trump Propaganda Works
by Thomas Kilkauer
http://www.countercurrents.org/2017/02/03/how-trump-propaganda-works/
Trump propaganda will not only shape the relationship between both groups it will also lead to diminished self-respect on the part of subordinate groups and thereby hinder emancipation with the ultimate goal of preventing liberation altogether. Propaganda has succeeded when African Americans start to believe in the propaganda of blacks are lazy and the migrant worker believes to be an alien. Beyond that, Trump propaganda also creates legitimizing myths. These are important to Trump propaganda. They supply the means by which a high-privileged group (e.g. white and wealthy) assigns to themselves positive social value while portraying others as justifiably possessing lower standing.
Donald Trump – Executive Order And Islamophobia
by T Navin

Trump, through the Executive order, you are only building a coalition of propagators of Islamophobia. Your actions are only divisive and go against the entire liberal-democratic ethos. You are only on the way to build a much darker world. In this world, trust is based on ones religious identity. Safety and security is dependent on one’s religious background.
Québec Mosque Attack

Canadians are generally comfortable and from that somewhat complacent within our own little world. When a severely disturbing event such as this occurs, it shakes us out of our complacency, our isolation, and unites most everyone in a rare moment of undivided humanity. While the motive for the killing has not been fully defined as yet, its angry rationale needs to be continually guarded against – but we also need to be made aware of the domestic and foreign policies of successive governments that make these moments more rather than less likely to happen.
Modi Government’s Budget Has Nothing For The Students
by Sunand

Let us give some figures at this juncture. While the fiscal deficit for the financial year 2016-17 was 3.2% of GDP, in the same year the tax forgone was a massive 3.18 lakh crore that is equal to 2.1% of the GDP. The social sector spending including that on education can be increased by reducing the concessions to the corporates and big businesses. The fact that government hasn’t done so is only a pointer of its priorities.
IGP Kalluri Asked To Proceed On Leave: A Necessity, Not A Virtue
by Nivedita Dwivedi

IGP Kalluri, the man alleged to have committed untold atrocities on clueless tribal people in Bastar, and the scores of human rights activists who have tried to intervene time and again in order to demand at least a semblance of justice for these innocent people, (who have been mercilessly mass-murdered, raped, beaten ruthlessly, maimed etc.) has been very graciously asked by the government to proceed on ‘medical leave’.
