Speaker Bercow on Trump State Visit
Responding to a point of order during legislative business, British House of Commons Speaker John Bercow told members that following the U.S. travel ban he was “even more strongly opposed” to an address by President Trump in Parliament during his upcoming visit to the U.K. British Prime Minister Theresa May invited President Trump to a state visit later in 2017, but several members opposed the visit because of controversial statements by Mr. Trump. Speaker Bercow later said the U.K.'s opposition to racism and sexism and support for equality for all were important considerations in the House of Commons. House of Commons members were to debate President Trump’s state visit on February 20, 2017.
