Former Marlborough City Councilor and state representative Steven Levy is accused of shoving his girlfriend to the ground in a fit of rage Saturday outside a Waverly Street restaurant, authorities said.
Framingham Police arrested Levy, 48, on Saturday at 5:15 a.m. after his girlfriend reported the assault earlier that morning, a police report filed in Framingham District Court on Monday said.

The woman said she, Levy and other friends were at the Chicken Bone, 358 Waverly St. late Friday night. At one point, Levy and one of his girlfriend's friends went outside together. Levy's girlfriend told police she went outside to check on them and saw them kissing "intimately," the report said.
Levy was holding her cellphone and ATM card, and she ripped it from his front pocket, the report said.

"(She) states Steve became enraged and immediately grabbed her right breast area and ripped her shirt," the report said.

Another man intervened, but Levy again grabbed the woman, "shook her violently" and knocked her to the ground, the report said.

After the woman reported the assault, police called Levy. He came to the police station on his own around 5 a.m. on Saturday and police arrested him.

Levy, of 61 Ogrady Road, was charged with assault and battery.

Levy was released without bail following his Framingham District Court arraignment Monday. He is due back in court on June 17 for a pretrial conference.

Steven Levy is finishing his first term as a state representative and the Marlboro Republican is seeking a second term. In 2010, the former Marlboro City Councilor defeated incumbent Danielle Gregoire in a race that was decided by less than 100 votes.

As a city councilor, he advocated for a law that would limit where sex offenders could reside within city limits, and continues to work for strong child protection laws as a state legislator. He has also advocated for fiscal responsibility and accountability, job creation and economic development, the restoration of local education aid and investment in education and public safety.

In addition to his civic work, Mr. Levy is also a member of the Citizens for Limited Taxation, the Gun Owners Action League and the National Rifle Association.
