Most people don't know much about the ACA, and the GOPers are desperate to repeal it before it is fully implemented. Failing to repeal it would make them look pretty foolish for trying so hard to repeal it 40 times so far.

5 'Obamacare' facts to counter any conservative argument against the ACA

The most controversial piece of legislation passed since President Obama came into office in January of 2009 has been the Affordable Care Act, or "Obamacare." Some support it, some are against and many find themselves in the middle as a shade of gray.
No matter where you stand, it has become common place to hear two people argue over the positives and negatives of "Obamacare." Many on the "political left" find themselves in a constant battle with those on the "political right" who demonize the health care law simply because President Obama's name is attached to it. For those who want to defend the positives, here are five facts that can be thrown out to counter a conservative argument.
1. Obamacare's '80/20' rule has led to nearly $4 billion in savings:
One of the least talked about provisions in the Affordable Care Act is the "80/20" rule. The rule mandates that 80 percent of an insurance companies earning must be put back into medical services and not the paid back to the company or share holders.
Medicare was created nearly 50 years ago and was considered a lifeline and safety net for seniors who needed health care after they retired. Once considered to be broke in the year 2016, a new report released earlier this shows that due to "Obamacare," Medicare will be fully solvent for an additional decade.
When President Obama originally spoke of his new health care reform, one of the main talking points he used was that there were nearly 50 million Americans currently uninsured. A report was released in 2012 that showed that because of "Obamacare," the number of uninsured had dropped by over two million.
After the financial crisis of 2008, senior citizens were hit harder than most. Struggling not just with their finances, but also with their health. Wondering if their Medicare would still hold up through the economic roller caster, older Americans questioned their future more than anyone else. A report was released in 2012 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services which stated that over five million seniors have saved, and will save millions of dollars because of the Affordable Care Act.
When the conservative dominated Supreme Court upheld "Obamacare" by a 5-4 vote, supporters released a sigh of relief. While the landmark health care reform was still standing, not everything was staying in place. One of the mandates of the health care law was that all states would have to expand their Medicaid problem, letting more low-income families into the enrollment. Though the federal government is set to cover 100 percent of the costs for the first few years, as time goes on states will have to chip in, but no more than 10 percent coming out of their own pocket.
Many conservative "red states" have balked at the idea, standing by their opposition to "Obamacare". Despite their stubborn stance, a new report from the Rand Corporation has shown that the states who refuse to expand Medicaid will lose billions of dollars.

The savings were divided into two areas. About $3.4 billion was saved by insurers keeping their premiums lower in order to comply with the new law and $500 million came in the form of rebates being sent back to consumers who overpaid for their premiums."

This includes $195 million in savings on prescriptions for diabetes, over $140 million on drugs to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and $75 million on cancer drugs so far this year. Also in the first eight months of 2012, more than 19 million people with original Medicare received at least one preventive service at no cost to them."

"If 14 states decide not to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act as intended by their governors, those state governments collectively will spend $1 billion more on uncompensated care in 2016 than they would if Medicaid is expanded.
In addition, those 14 state governments would forego $8.4 billion annually in federal payments and an additional 3.6 million people will be left uninsured, according to findings published in the June edition of the journal Health Affairs."

A reminder of what is at stake in the next elections, women's rights to equal pay, to make their own medical decisions, a nation where rapists are not given mor...e rights than the rape victim, the rights of many Americans to receive unemployment when they laid off, of families of all kinds to eat when their jobs are not living wage, the right of every American to receive treatment when they are sick, the rights of every American who paid into Social Security to receive their benefits when they retire, voting rights for every American, the right of soldiers not to be sent to war just so a bunch of corporations can rip us all off and then be left forgotten when they are wounded, also and let us not forget the tax payers' right to NOT have their money handed over to corporations in subsidies when those corporations are reporting record profits. There are many, many more issues at stake. These are just a few. We need politicians who will fight for us, not try to bilk us.
Congressional regressives are doing everything in their power to prevent the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) from ever going into effect. Having lost the initial vote on it, then lost the Supreme Court appeal, then staged 38 votes to repeal it in the House (none of which went anywhere), then refused to provide adequate appropriations to implement it, they're now threatening that they'll close government down in September unless Obamacare is denied all funding. They have no respect for the institutions of government or for our democracy; theirs is a win-at-any-cost approach that, like Newt Gingrich's desperate antics in 1995 -- shutting the government down because he didn't get his way -- will convince any Americans who still need convincing that they're a bunch of fanatics who deserve no role in our system of government. Let them do what they want, and then let Americans decide in 2014 to get rid of these radical regressives once and for all.

Racial Profiling Gone Wrong: Bigot Cops Didn’t Recognize Off-Duty Chief

AFRICANGLOBE – At least one cop has been disciplined for ordering the NYPD’s highest-ranking uniformed Black officer out of his auto while the three-star chief was off-duty and parked in Queens.
“How you can not know or recognize a chief in a department SUV with ID around his neck, I don’t know,” a police source said.
Chief Douglas Zeigler, 60, head of the Community Affairs Bureau, was in his NYPD-issued vehicle near a fire hydrant when two plainclothes cops approached on May 2, sources said.
One officer walked up on each side of the SUV at
57th Ave. and Xenia St. in Corona about 7 p.m. and told the driver to roll down the heavily tinted windows, sources said.
What happened next is in dispute.
In his briefing to Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, Chief Zeigler said the two cops, who are White, had no legitimate reason to approach his SUV, ranking sources said.
After they ordered him to get out, one officer did not believe the NYPD identification Zeigler gave him.
The cops gave a different account:
When one officer spotted Zeigler’s service weapon through the rolled-down window, he yelled
“Gun!” according to sources who have spoken with the officers.
Both cops raised their weapons and ordered the driver out of the car, sources said.
Instead of saying he was an armed member of the NYPD, Zeigler shouted, “Don’t you know who I am?” the sources said.
When one cop reached over to check the identification badge around Zeigler’s neck, the chief pushed him away, sources said.
Only then did Zeigler tell the two officers his name and rank, those sources alleged.
Chief Zeigler, in his discussions with Kelly, said the officers never yelled “Gun!” sources said.
One cop got into a heated argument with the chief even after seeing the ID, sources said.
That cop was stripped of his gun and badge and placed on modified duty last night, sources said. The status of the second officer was unclear.
The incident occurred as the NYPD is under fire for record numbers of pedestrians being stopped and frisked, the majority of them Black or Hispanic. Some 145,098 people were stopped by the NYPD in the first quarter of this year.
Zeigler has headed the Community Affairs Bureau since January 2006. His wife, Neldra Zeigler, is NYPD deputy commissioner for equal employment opportunity.
