Middleboro Chairman of BOS Resigns

From the Cape Cod Times --

Adam Bond, the selectman who spearheaded the town’s casino deal with the Mashpee Wampanoag, resigned tonight.
.
Bond made a brief statement at the start of tonight's selectman's meeting, pushed his gavel aside and walked out of the room. While some people in the room looked surprised, members of the board did not react. Instead they elected a new chairman and continued the meeting.

.

And from the Brockton Enterprise --
.
MIDDLEBORO —
Selectman Chairman Adam M. Bond shocked his fellow board members and the town as a whole by abruptly announcing he is quitting the board and walking out of Monday night’s meeting.

.
Once a champion and chief architect of the town’s agreement with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe for a casino in town, Monday night he charged his fellow board members with not showing any “gumption” in defending the interests of the town.
.
“More to the point, I cannot, in good conscience, be complicit in what I believe is the co-opting of a majority of this board to favor tribal and investor interests rather than the town,” he said in his letter of resignation.
.
Town Clerk Eileen S. Gates any notice of a vacancy on a board by Feb. 12 means the balance of the term will be up for grabs at the April election.

Best line:

“More to the point, I cannot, in good conscience, be complicit in what I believe is the co-opting of a majority of this board to favor tribal and investor interests rather than the town,” he said in his letter of resignation.

He had no problems in July 2007 when the whole board was co-opted against ANYONE who spoke against the casino to favor tribal and investors interests rather than the town.

And the list goes on.

"The Andy Griffith Show: Andy the Matchmaker (#1.7)" (1960)

Sheriff Andy Taylor: You can't be serious about resigning. What in the world will you do?

Deputy Barney Fife: Oh, I don't know... I could go up to the pickle factory. They always need a brine tester.

Bye Barney.

Gladys,
I wholeheartedly agree, but as I pointed out, Mr. Bond wrote this script and worked to elect this Board.
I attended the anti-Recall Rally at the Elks Club and can testify to the outright lies Mr. Bond stated publicly about the Recall candidates.
To now condemn those he chose to support and elect is ..... what?
Mr. Bond, to this date, has posted on his blog that I reported him to a non-existent organization. It never happened.
And he subsequently stated that I told a business associate(s) that he was anti-semitic. It never happened.
There is a lengthy list of adjectives I would use to describe Mr. Bond. Anti-semitic would not be on that list.
When someone chooses to discredit others with lies, how does anyone trust his veracity now?

This saga will have many twists, turns and surprises before it ends and justice prevails.

But brace yourself, Town!
This will not be quick.
Let's not get mired in today's and tomorrow's soap opera episode.
You can't fast forward.
And you don't know the outcome.

Sit back and watch the unravelling
saga. It makes for good drama.

Any bets on how long it takes for the moving van to back up to Rock Street?

I say less than a week.

Will the investors pay Minni Mi's Ethics' fines?

There were some qualified candidates who would have represented the town's interests better than those currently serving on this board. Will they step forward now?
It's up to the voters to decide who they want to run their town. Dumb and dumber or people with brains.
This is what you elected.

YIKES, YIKES, and YIKES! I blame the grandstanding of AB (along with Wayne Perkins and all members of past and current Board of Selectment plus many others) over the spring and summer of 97 for putting this town in the position it now finds itself. However, after watching Bellicose Bumpkin's vidoe of Adam tendering his resignation, I am truly frightened as to what may happen between now and the April election. He clearly was the most intelligent of the board (by no means is that an endorsement of his decisions, though). We are now left with...no leadership at all. God help this community!

We need another candidate to step forward.
We can't have Spartan on this board again!

Tribe in disarray, incapable of self-governance.
Town in disarray, incapable of self-governance.
Chaos reigns and the most incompetent in charge.
Hand that gavel back to Marsha!

“It’s a shock,” said Wilfred J. Duphily, husband of Selectman Muriel C. Duphily. “What’s his reasoning? It’s unbelievable.”

Will he be shocked when she's fined by Ethics?

At least we know who Minni Ma depends on for political advice.

Stupid is as stupid does!

And aren't we glad the Bonds brought us cultchah!

The Bonds went all over starting things but never following through.
He could have been the town manager. Think about it.

Afraid for his safety????
For what?
The man has an underserved ego.
This confirms the identity of VV.

Green Acres is the place for me farm living is the life for me. Land spreading out so far and wide hate Manhattan just give me that country side. Do ya think maybe Adam is headed back to NY yet? What a disgrace he has made of himself. Must have been like a comedy show. So which of the lesser evils left is now the chairperson? Don't worry, Marsha will run the show with her IT hubby from the sidelines. Man oh man what a mess. Maybe now Adam will spend time on his law practice and less time in the coffee shop. Good luck. He does need something.

This seems to me to be a transparent exit strategy. Bond wasn't competent as chairman and really wasn't doing anything anyway. Meetings were wasted with his ego and inability to make a simple comment without his voluminous oratory.
The clowns he helped elect are even worse.

Several friends expressed such disgust at the "soap opera" in town government that they weren't going to watch or participate any more.
That sentiment may be widespread and should serve as a caution to any sharing that sentiment.
This is when we need you the most to participate in town government.
It has only gotten this bad because few were paying attention.
The board needs to change for the sake of the town. We need to support new candidates willing to consider the best interests of the town first and foremost.
Maybe we need someone like a Nancy Yeatts' clone. I've watched that lady conduct meetings in a respectful manner and keep the meeting moving forward. She doesn't need a gavel. Imagine that!
Look around, Mboro. No other town has such clowns on their board.

My husband reminded me of the day we were in the supermarket and Minni Ma was in front of us.
She turned around and my husband, who was standing in front of the carriage, said hi to her. She looked at him as if he had said something unusual or offensive to her and turned around.
We might not have been formally introduced but watch the meetings every week so recognized her.
I can't believe it's the first time a 'stranger' said hi to her and just think it was strange.

How in the name of god is Pat Rogers the chairman of the BOS? He can't even run his own personal life. When asked questions regarding town employees, it's huh? HUH? You know the people that work for the taxpayers, get paid extremely well, excellent benefits, promotions, lots of perks. Then again look what else was left. If they had any brains, they should have all walked right behind Bond with their heads down and never return to a board again. The reason this town is in the POOR shape it's in is because of this BOS and the past BOS. GIMMMIE GIMMIE CLUB. There's nothing left the taxpayers can give. We can't even sell our homes and get out of Dodge because of the recession and it hit town bad.

Is Adam in hiding or is he still hanging the coffee shop? He should hide from himself. He was and is his own worst enemy. He played a BIG part in the problems we are facing with the other two jokers Healey and Perkins, yeah Marsha isn't the least bit innocent either. Doesn't anyone on the past and or present BOS have ANY PRIDE?

Lincoln Andrews Seletman? Now that's an April Fool's joke.

Things are prety bad if Victoria has to defend adam anonymously.

Time to move on and elect a better board.

I hear whining about the town and those who run it but I don't see new faces step forward when there's a vacancy on a committee. It's time for the whiners to participate.
Wayne Perkins as town moderater? God help us.
Lincoln Andrews sucked before becomes hostile if you disagree with him doesnt even understand the planning bd regs after all these years.

A reason given by Bond to oppose the recal was that dept heads were leaving. The Police cheif, DPW and water superintendants are retiring. So what does Bond do? He bails. Thanks for leaving us with muttonheads. Maybe Sputero can compress those positions.
