Gassing

Many of the animals at over-crowded shelters will be gassed to euthanize them.
If you're considering a furry addition to the family, please think of shelters and rescues first.

Please support Spay/Neuter programs.

Adoption and Transportation information is available on links.

POLYDACTYL ALERT!!! Nicky is a neutered older fella with some special paws who has somehow found himself in the shelter. This cutie pie is really not loving his stay and his picture clearly shows that. Nicky would much rather be snuggled in a comfy cat bed, enjoying some chin rubs, and munching on some cat treats. Instead, he sits in a cold, metal cell scared and all alone. Please work to save this special senior tonight! Contact a rescue group right away to save Nicky!

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the cat. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the cats’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the cat. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how animals fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on a particular cat, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.

Huckleberry and Zena:

This is "Zena" and her pups - her face tells her story. Zena is barely two years old and was found as a stray with her litter of pups. She is coming to Connecticut to stay with a lovely foster family on Saturday! She has 'the cutest bobtail' and 'loves everyone'. Its our job to get her and her puppies into wonderful homes, and give Zena the life she's never had. When Zena arrives at her foster family, we would love to be able to give her things such as soft blankets, a new collar and leash, delicious wet food (for a skinny Momma!) and a warm bed to sleep in. As many of you know, we also were hit with a whopping (in total) $8,000 bill - in order to save the life of Huckleberry, an adorable 4lb puppy who came down with Coccadia and Parvo. You - amazing people - helped us raise well over $700 towards his veterinary care! Unfortunately the remainder of the bill was much of the medical money we set aside for the coming months. I...f you can help us with Zena's wish list, or medical money for vaccinations, please visit:

http://www.crowdrise.com/zenaandpups

Or:

http://www.tailsofcourage.org/donate

Just 10$ can pay for Zena's food for around 5 days!

Woo! Okay - onto a Huckleberry update - Its short I promise! Friends of Huckleberry's foster family came round to have a chat and catch up on old news. Well - luckily for Huckleberry - they fell in love! They are currently fostering him to see if their cats like him. Paws crossed that the felines will agree - and Huckleberry can finally get the home he deserves!

Thank you everyone!

How do you spell unbridled enthusiasm for life, the world and all its creatures? J-a-c-k-s-o-n! What a happy boy Jackson is, his tail whirling like a helicopter in his eagerness to get outside and explore. He likes to make new human friends but reserves his happiest smile for his doggie pals. He just LOVES to be close and playing with them and no wonder as he lived with dogs (and cats!) before joining us at the Center. Small, large or in-between, Jackson is not picky about his canine friends and later when were walking through the park and met one of its resident cats he simply stopped and watched her, his body and gaze soft. This is a guy who gets along with everyone! Though Jackson pulls on the leash and will need some training in that area he is much calmer in the park where he can enjoy all the exciting sights and scents of the great outdoors. He gives me hugs on request and comes up on a bench when I pat the empty seat but what he really wants is to keep exploring and soon we're back on our way. His former owner tells us that Jackson lived with two little human siblings and is friendly to children and strangers and that is easy to believe, I don't think Jackson has ever met a person he didn't like. I could see him being a wonderful pet for an active young family, he is a good boy who just needs a little polish to his manners. Jackson is a sweet boy with a big heart, won't you show him that people can have big hearts too?

How gorgeous is Amaya? She is a wonderful girl, too! She gets along well with other dogs and she does well with all people including children. She is just a great girl. She is searching for her loving forever home...could YOU be who she's searching for? :)

Little Gino is STILL waiting for the perfect home! He's 10 years old, but full of love and energy. Please check out his info and see if you could be the right person to give him a forever home! Gino is currently being fostered near Los Angeles, CA.
Remember 10-yr-old Gino, who was stuck in a high-kill Los Angeles shelter earlier this week? He's out! But still needs us.

See his (pre-rescue) video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrOOI717ucU

A few wonderful people worked together to save Gino, who, as a senior chihuahua, most likely would not have made it out alive otherwise. They are fostering him temporarily, but urgently need to find him a forever home!

One of his rescuers, Madonna, says of Gino: "I can't even describe the love and energy he brings," and "he is incredibly sweet and loves to sit on a lap. He likes to rub his eyes (gently) on my clothing; seems like a nuzzler."

Between being violently attacked by another dog and spending lonely, scary nights in a shelter, Gino has been through enough. Who can open their home and heart to this lovebug and take care of him through his golden years??

For more information or to discuss adoption, please contact Madonna at *** madcacciatore@gmail.com ***.

Mario is so quiet in his kennel, head on his paws, observing the activity around him. He's a little shy but responds to a soft voice and touch. He has a well groomed white coat and his weight is perfect for his size, his tail wags from time to time and he checks up as we go. Likely housetrained, he 'went' as soon as he was out the door. Mario was fine being tethered for some pictures and actually seemed to enjoy sitting back and watching the activity in the park. Ignoring other dogs that pass us by, he jumps up on the park bench to sit beside me. He enjoys being petted, but is a low key, quiet guy so does not overdo the affectionate interaction. He's so handsome that people stop to ask about him. Later that day when I unlatched his kennel he happily (but very low key) came out for a walk. He's a lovely boy who will make a gentle, sweet BFF. He's looking - are you? Ask to meet him today.

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go unnoticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.

The way Sergent's life has been blown apart lately, it's no surprise this 6-year-old beauty carries a New Hope rating onto the euth list. Sergent belonged to two people all those years, and those two people are the only humans he has been around. It's been one man, his son, and Sergent. No mention of a vet; no mention of neighbors ever having fed Sergent when his people were out of town. That's an idyllic existence and it was shattered on 4/18 when the men who owned Sergent dumped him into a high-kill shelter as they drove to their new home. What a shame. Given some time to decompress, Sergent should make somebody a lovely companion. Only a New Hope rescue can save him tonight.
