In this rich, well-educated state, 40% of
third graders can't read proficiently. And over one in seven of our children
grows up in poverty.
We need to do better. With
your support, MassBudget is working hard to provide everyone working on these
challenges with high-quality, accessible information on how to improve things --
for our state's people and economy. As demonstrated by MassBudget's
research in my recent op-ed with business leader Paul
Egerman, investing in people, through education and other essential
supports, is the best path to a strong Commonwealth: "What do states with jobs that pay good wages
all have in common?...They each have a well-educated
workforce."
Improving the minimum wage is also key
to a better life for over two hundred thousand Massachusetts children and their
families. While our state is much wealthier today than it was 45 years ago, the
annual wage for a full-time minimum wage worker has declined 25% -- from about
$21,000 a year (adjusted for inflation) to $16,000. MassBudget is the go-to resource for leaders and activists
working on this crucial issue.
For our work on these issues, and so much more
we hope you can make a contribution today, for a stronger
Commonwealth tomorrow.
Thank you and best wishes,
Noah
