Pilgrim back online after shutdown
PLYMOUTH — Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station went back online Saturday after being manually shut down early Wednesday morning because of a leak in a valve that provides steam to the reactor's turbine.
According to Joyce McMahon, spokeswoman for Entergy, owner-operator of the plant, the reactor went back online at about 3 p.m.
McMahon said the power level is currently at 20-25 percent of full capacity, since it takes two to three days for the power level to reach 100 percent.
"After a thorough investigation, plant technicians repacked a steam supply value associated with the turbine system," McMahon wrote in an email. "We also took advantage of the plant's being offline to perform other maintenance that cannot be done while the plant is operating."
