A volunteer writes: My man Winston came to the Care Center after being found in an apartment building hallway. Clean, neat, and super sweet with gorgeous bengel-like stripes, he has the good manners and easygoing demeanor of a likely former house cat who somehow lost his way. This sleepyhead enjoys his afternoon naps, but he also likes interacting with people too. Give him a few minutes to get used to you, and he'll be up at the front of his kennel in no time, soliciting ear scratchings and giving champion head butts. Winston is hoping hard that he'll find a new pet parent very soon, someone who will appreciate him forever. Can you be the one to make Winston's dream come true? A volunteer writes: Winston is a biggish boy, a bit of a chubster, but not fat, but not thin either. He has gorgeous markings and there's a sweetness about him that is irresistible. He adores settling in for a petting session, and you are sure to enjoy it too.

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the cat. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the cats’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the cat. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how animals fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on a particular cat, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Ice is an exquisitely beautiful 9-month-old who garners gasps of adoration when she walks outside her kennel. Her pure white fur and pink ears make her appear ever much the energizer bunny. She gets excited a little easily but we think labeling her for an experienced owner without children may be a bit of an overreaction on the part of the shelter. Ice is playful around people but caution would suggest care when introducing her to other pets. She’s not thrilled when somewhat tries to take away her food; but she tolerates the intrusion. Ice had the misfortune of catching kennel cough and so she’s been listed to die tomorrow. That would be a tragedy as Ice hasn’t even lived through an entire year of life yet. Ice is a small girl who will grow to a medium size, quite ideal for apartment living. Please advocate widely for her this evening.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog: A0960738 Ice pulls on the leash and was excited, but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment - jumped up, licked hands and face. She was overexcited during handling, jumping up, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. She engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open. She showed some concerning behavior during the food bowl test - stiffening, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. Ice was easy to handle when chewing on toys and rawhides, but when she approaches the helper dog, body is tense, ears erect, high tail wag. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor's hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft 'popping' of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog places her open mouth over the Assessor's hand without applying pressure. Food: 4. Dog freezes. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with her tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.

Lenny is a handsome six year old tabby with beautiful markings and soulful eyes. His eyes show sadness and rightfully so. Lenny is the victim of a series of circumstances well beyond his control. First, he was brought to the shelter with his housemates after his owner was evicted. He was then exposed to a germ infested environment and caught the shelter cold. Now poor Lenny will pay the ultimate price, with his life. Lenny is a sweet and adorable boy who needs a place where he can heal from his cold. Please step up for this deserving cat tonight. Save Lenny!

Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.

***MISUNDERSTOOD SENIOR DUMPED DUE TO BEHAVIOR!!! PLEASE SAVE HAL!!!*** Handsome HAL, a 9-year-old cream & white senior, was betrayed & dumped by his former owner because he "Pees on everything". Since Hal is already neutered, his behavior probably means this poor guy has a bladder infection or some other urinary tract problem! Why not try to treat the problem instead of dumping your cat of 9 years at a high-kill shelter? Hal lived with other cats, but he ignored, hissed or ran from the other cats. He's also fearful of strangers & children; Hal "runs from" them. Is it possible this dear boy has been bullied by the other cats or mistreated by someone? Surely there has to be someone in the tri-state area who can step up for Hal! The ACC has decided to write him off as a behavior problem because he's TERRIFIED & is acting in self-defense mode. But the heartless ACC slapped him with New Hope Only & quickly added him to tomorrow's kill list. Let's work hard to find this poor fellow a loving, forever home! Start RIGHT NOW to apply to foster or adopt misunderstood HAL from the approved New Hope rescue groups! If you can't save HAL yourself, please SHARE his sad story & PLEDGE for his rescue!

SAVE BLIND SENIOR DOG NORMAN!
http://hendrickboards.com/shop/critical-needs-norman?tracking=4f2ae1226de22

Dumped onto streets of New York City, Norman, a senior blind dog, would probably not be here today if not for Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Inc. in New York.

... Imagine how scared he must have been wandering all alone without being able to see! Poor Norman has an excellent, 5 star temperament, however, he needs a complete medical checkup for which we need emergency funds First and foremost, Norman must see an ophthalmologist because both of his eyes have corneal ulcers which we believe is causing pain.

Let's give Norman a second chance!
