Entergy, Fukushima, Blah, Blah, Blah!

In response to a facebook post, THE SHILLS WOKE UP!

First a PARTISAN SHILL pretended that Senator Markey's opposition prevented research for a 'breeder reactor' [to develop a fission/fusion reactor that would eliminate the problem of waste disposal THEORETICALLY].

Folks, Much like Lockheed Martin's F-15, a GAZILLION TAX DOLLARS have been invested in this THEORY and no solution has been found by the great minds.

THIS IS NOT PARTISAN!

The 2nd SHILL seemed to decide this was those dastardly liberals...DAMN THEM!

My responses to GET THE FACTS quickly caused me to be BANNED!

Below are a few articles, by no means all.

PLEASE! Gather your FACTS because you make a Mutton Headed Decision!

[ENTERGY owns other Nuclear Power Plants including Indian Point and Vermont Yankee where they lost FUEL RODS, inter alia.]

Faulty insulation caused fire, oil spill at N.Y. nuclear plant | 01 July 2015 | An insulation failure in a transformer caused the fire at a New York nuclear plant May 9 that spilled about 3,000 gallons of oil into the Hudson River. Entergy, the operator of Indian Point Energy Center, announced Tuesday that the failed insulation -- made of special paper -- caused a short circuit in a high-voltage coil. The company regularly inspects its paper insulation for signs of degradation, but no problems were detected before the fire near the Unit 3 generator.
Redeeming lives of Fukushima's irradiated animals | 29 June 2015 | In the wake of the crisis at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, much remains unknown [?!?] about the long-term health effects of the radioactive substances released. Seeking answers, Tohoku University Prof. Manabu Fukumoto has been examining the blood and other factors of slaughtered cattle and wild animals caught by hunters mainly within a 20-kilometer radius of the plant...Fukumoto discovered that cesium levels in the organs of calves were 1.5 times higher than in those of their mothers.

PILGRIM: ...one of the five worst performing reactors in the nation....

Entergy Corp., the owner and operator of Pilgrim, promptly reported other glitches that occurred during the storm to the NRC as required — including the loss of consistent offsite power and subsequent reactor shutdown; the switch to two onsite generators; the failure of the high-powered cooling injection system needed to cool the reactor; and the subsequent failure of one of four valves used as backup to the cooling injection system.

Pilgrim is classified by federal regulators as one of the five worst performing reactors in the nation. There are currently 99 reactors operating in the U.S.

Entergy sues over waste

Under the Nuclear Waste Policy Act enacted by Congress in 1982, the U.S. government was required to begin disposal of commercially-generated spent fuel in federal repositories no later than January 1998, in return for some hefty fees paid by the owners of the nuclear energy operations.

Entergy has paid $167 million into the waste fund since buying the Pilgrim plant from Boston Edison in 1999, to help cover the costs of building and operating a federal repository, according to court documents.

Currently about 3,300 radioactive spent fuel assemblies are being stored in a large pool at Pilgrim’s nuclear reactor. The pool was originally designed for about 800. Special racks were installed to accommodate the larger number, but the pool is now at capacity.

Within the next few weeks, 204 rod assemblies will be moved into three heavy concrete dry casks that will be stored outdoors on the site. The transfer, along with costs to prepare the site and install a concrete pad, totals $65 million.

Put another Uninformed Cluck Head in Office and VOTE for Mark Fisher!

FLIP FLOP CHARLIE BAKER DID NOT ANSWER!
Let's interpret his spineless lack of response is his unwillingness to INFORM HIMSELF, yet again!

Remember, Charlie Baker's uninformed position on Predatory Gambling!
Charlie Baker IGNORED that a SINGLE COMMERCIAL CASINO IN MASSACHUSETTS paves the road for HOW MANY INDIAN CASINOS?
Republican Charles Baker was the only gubernatorial candidate not to respond to the survey. His challenger in the primary, Republican Mark Fisher, said he did not believe the plant should be shut down.

Regarding expansion of the emergency planning zone, Fisher wrote he would support it if studies showed areas beyond the zone were in fact affected by the radiation plume.

TOTALLY UNINFORMED ABOUT THE ISSUES:

"I believe nuclear plants in the U.S. are operating with state-of-the-art technology which, while not eliminating risk, reduces risk to levels acceptable by the majority of the citizens," wrote Fisher, who said he has worked at both nuclear and coal-powered plants. "Ironically, a coal fired power plant releases more radiation into the environment than a nuclear power plant."

Consider this -- Nuclear Energy costs

That’s more than double the capital costs for solar power and three and a half times the cost for wind.

Even the Closeted Tea Bagger Charlie Baker figured out that most folks favored Cape Wind and changed his position....at least for now.

This is partisanship at its worst and shortchanges our future with myths and misstatements.

"no escape from the Cape"

Under that plan at least one of the Cape's two bridges would be closed in a nuclear accident to stop an exodus of Cape residents from slowing the evacuation from the 10-mile zone.

23 US Nuclear Plants use same GE Fukushima reactors

Health Effects of Fukushima
"Concluding Remarks
The Japanese government under Democratic Party rule, declared that the Fukushima accident was over at the end of 2011, and the prime minister in Sept 2013 under the Liberal-Democratic Party at the IOC meeting to select the next Olympic site pronounced that the Fukushima accident had been contained and Tokyo was well prepared for the Olympics.
The real situation is far different, as documented above. Leakage of radioactive materials through various routes continues. The locations and states of the melted fuel rods in the reactors at Fk-1 have yet to be determined. It was found only recently (by use of muon radiation/absorption technique) that the nuclear reactors of units 1 and 2 are indeed devoid of nuclear fuel rods in the core 23, but the technique was insufficient to locate the melted fuel rod debris.
Serious health effects of radiation in general have already been widely observed. It is best to refer to better studied examples of the past: Chernobyl 24 and down-winders of Nevada tests 25. The reality of health effects at Chernobyl due to fallout from the explosive accident as detailed in 26 and summarized in 27 may indicate the future of Fukushima and Japan.
The health effects of radiation are often slow in manifesting, particularly in the case of cancers, though cancer rates have already started to increase in Fukushima and elsewhere, as discussed above. Therefore, more people will be affected by radiation in the years to come, not only in Fukushima, but across Japan." Thanks Nick Thabit

JAPANFOCUS.ORG|BY JAPANFOCUS

"The point the author was trying to make wasn’t so much that the GE-designed reactors are faulty or that the governments and scientific communities in America and Japan are covering up the world’s exposure to the radiation emanating from Fukushima. The point is that there are 23 nuclear reactors of the same design operating in the US. 23 reactors with spent fuel rod cooling ponds suspended 100 feet in the air. 23 reactors located in states susceptible to earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, or all three. 23 Fukushima’s waiting to happen in the United States. That’s what nobody wants to talk about."
