Next Kills

If you're considering adding a furry member to your family, please think of shelters and rescues first. Unclaimed animals in overcrowded shelters are euthanized, frequently by gassing.

Please support Spay/Neuter Programs.

Adoption and Transportation information available on links.

Handsome Tank has earned a New Hope only rating, mainly because of food guarding issues. Please read his volunteer comments, and bio, and contact an approved rescue if you can help him tonight. "Tank is with us as his owner encountered serious difficulties precluding him to take care of his pet. Tank is not used to tight living spaces and pulls like ten horses when he exits his kennel. He barks when he sees a potential walker but calms down when he spots the leash and wags his tail. He is a gorgeous Shepherd mix who has been well cared for, is well nourished and wears the most magnificent and well groomed coat. Tank loves food and treats and unfortunately has shown that he likes to guard his meal and other possessions. He is tense, uncomfortable with his new environment and does jump at his caretaker, seeking attention. He does calm down and relates to me as I sit on a bench. He comes as I call him and sits by my side. He seems to be fine with other dogs encountered in the yard. He likes to be caressed and looks at me with a very soft gaze, his tail wagging gently on the ground. Tank belongs to a large space and a place where his sensitive Shepherd mind can find its balance. He needs a master to obey, respect, admire and feel safe. Only then will Tank be fine. I hope that soon enough, Tank will find love and peace."

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go unnoticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.

Ginggy is a 10-year-old lady with a funny name and a heart made of gold. This orange and white love machine has been someone's pet, despite her having come to the shelter as a stray on 4/20. Ginggy has been declawed on her front paws and one hopes that she has not had to look out for herself for too long. Ginggy rocked an AVERAGE rating in the high-stress shelter environment and should make a lovely companion for just about anyone, once she gets settled. She could use a trip to the vet to check on a few things, but on the whole? Ginggy is a perfect pet who will die tomorrow morning, if no one steps up for her tonight.
