Progressive Breakfast: Medicare For All Is Coming, No Matter What They Say

MORNING MESSAGE

Richard Eskow
Medicare For All Is Coming, No Matter What They Say
Medicare For All, which until recently was rarely mentioned in mainstream political and media circles, has gained so much momentum that it was recently the answer to a question on the quiz show Jeopardy. Is it coming to a town near you?

Recess Delayed for New GOP Health Bill

Delaying August recess, Senate Republicans to release updated health care bill. NPR:“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., plans to release an updated Republican health care bill on Thursday and is delaying the body’s annual August recess by two weeks in an effort to generate momentum for the beleaguered legislation… The GOP will also release an updated version of their Better Care Reconciliation Act, which so far has drawn opposition from both moderate Republicans who say it goes too far in reducing Medicaid funding and conservatives who argued the bill doesn’t go far enough to fully repeal regulations and subsidies in the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare.”
Downbeat Republicans no closer to health care deal, but ready to vote next week. CNN:“Republican senators were no closer to a health care deal on Tuesday after the surprise decision to delay the Senate’s summer recess and as a bombshell revelation about Donald Trump Jr. hung over Capitol Hill. GOP senators had hoped to finally get some clarity on the fate of their bill to overhaul Obamacare, after last week’s Independence Day recess deepened some lawmakers’ reservations about the proposal.”
Take Action Now: Share your health-care story and get trained in direct action. The Nation:“Indivisible Austin, along with the Children’s Defense Fund Texas and Indivisible KC, has created a website that makes it easy to add your story. Visit protectourcare.us and you can submit a story in writing, through a photo, or by video. The team behind the website will then post it on protectourcare.us, add it to YouTube if it’s a video submission, email it to Congressional staffers and tweet it at senators.”

More from OurFuture.org:

Health Care Debate Should Also Focus on Jobs in Indian Country. Mark Trahant:“Medicaid is a major job creator for women, supporting at least 3 million direct jobs. The Indian Health Service is the single largest employer in Indian Country. Preserving these jobs should be a priority in the health care debate.”
