Arms And The Babies: Unbridled Compassion For All The Casualties of War
by George Capaccio

We won’t be seeing Nikki Haley, our UN Ambassador, waving photos of these children and calling for an immediate halt to the bombing of Yemen and a lifting of the blockade. Nor can we expect Trump to shed anything but crocodile tears for the victims of our various strategic alliances with members of the Gulf Cooperation Council and their war in Yemen. Firing cruise missiles into Syria won’t do anything for the people of Syria beyond exacerbating an already horrendous situation

Trump Strikes Syria
by Dr Binoy Kampmark

Sunni powers such as Saudi Arabia have already made it clear, not only that they supported the US strikes, but that Washington could well do more to push Assad out, paving the way for their own variant of fundamentalist Islam.

Trump Attacks Syria: A Gambit And A War Crime
by Taj Hashmi

A war crime is a war crime! The US has no international mandate to work as the custodian of any world order. There’s nothing called “US exceptionalism” in any textbook on international law or diplomacy. Any unilateral invasion of another country, without prior approval from the UN Security Council, is a flagrant violation of international law, hence a war crime. Unfortunately, the US has been behaving like a bull in the china shop since its annexation of Mexican territories in the 1840s.

How Can You Eat At A Time Like This?
by Rachel Olivia O'Connor

One would be hard put to find instances where people have altered their habits significantly today in foul-mouthing the powers that be. And on that note, I ask you what you’ve done. Each reader is obliged to do a self-accounting not undertaken to date.

What if I told you 2,000 women per year are murdered by men they know? (Interview with Dawn Wilcox)
by Mickey Z

“Women are people and they deserve to have their lives valued,” Wilcox declares. “They deserve our voices speaking out on their behalf. And when they are abused, assaulted, murdered, and erased, they deserve our attention and our outrage.”

Bankim’s ‘Bharat’ -Pro-British, Anti-Muslim And Pro-Brahminical
by Ambedkar-Periyar Study Circle

Bankim Chandra Chatterjee or Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, who is considered as the father of Hindu Rashtra, has written three novels all in the last ten years of his life: Anandmath, Debi Choudhurani and Sitaram. All of them can be justly described as anti-Muslim.

Bridging The Gender Gap
by Moin Qazi

Commerce has a profound ability to make people put aside their differences and interact with each other. “Before the self help group came on the scene, I was zero,” Kamla told us. “We were share-croppers. We could not find food to feed our children or clothes to dress them. Now we can buy food and lease land and send our children to school. I have repaid Rs. 5,000 for the loan I was given by my self help group. I have money left over from which I want to buy a goat.”

Photo Essay: We Treat Your Clothes Like Our Babies
by Wamika Singh

This photo essay is an attempt to capture this art and the grace with which these washermen perform it day after day, unappreciated yet hardworking and sincere towards their jobs.

Voice Of The Voiceless: People’s Tribunal Of Acquitted Innocents
by Aaysha Humayoon Kabeer

There are hundreds in our country who have been sealed with the impression of ‘terrorists’ merely because they were born into a particular religion, and this indeed poses huge question marks to our democracy. It is this realization which prompted Solidarity Youth Movement to organize the programme titled,”Youth Movement: People’s Tribunal of Acquitted Innocents.” Individuals who were prosecuted under charges of terrorism and later exonerated gathered from different parts of the country at Tagore Hall in Calicut March 11, 2017.

The undersigned students’ organisations and unions from North East India, would like to extend solidarity with people of African origin living in India and particularly those who were attacked in Greater Noida recently. We empathise with the violence, ordeals, and humiliation faced by Africans in India. We are distressed to learn of the ongoing situation, and denial of the Indian government to term the incident as racist is worrying
