‘Face the Nation’: Sanders Goes On ‘Face the Nation’ To Bash The Entire Democratic Party (VIDEO)

Sanders Goes On ‘Face the Nation’ To Bash The Entire Democratic Party (VIDEO)

Vermont’s U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders was quite blunt while appearing on CBS’s “Face the Nation” this Sunday morning, slamming the Democratic Party’s status quo.
The host asked him about the “terms of discussion” inside the Democratic Party about the party’s way forward in light of the volatile way that things have been going lately. This volatility includes backlash over Sanders’s recent endorsement of a candidate who is apparently against abortion.
As mentioned, Sanders spoke of the implications of all of this quite bluntly, saying:
‘I think what is clear to anyone who looks at where the Democratic Party today is that the model of the Democratic Party is failing. We have a Republican President who ran as the most unpopular president in the modern history of this country. Republicans control the House, the Senate, and two-thirds of Governor’s chairs, and in the last eight years, they picked up 900 legislative seats. Clearly the Democratic Party has got to change.’
Sanders obviously has a point. It’s not like he’s saying anything inaccurate. Rather, he’s exactly right that the Democratic Party has sustained massive electoral losses across the nation, and that’s not exactly a good sign for the current state of the Party.
In addition to that, Sanders obviously has a clear grasp of the American electorate and the best ways to connect to that electorate, seeing as he rose from a relatively unknown Vermont Senator to become a wildly popular presidential candidate in a matter of months. Sanders knows what’s up.
As for those who would seek to shut him up because he’s not a registered Democrat, they evidently don’t seem to grasp that pandering only to registered members of a political party isn’t exactly going to work if the number of those registered members are shrinking just about every day.
Sanders went on while appearing Sunday on CBS to describe what exactly it is that he feels needs to change in the Democratic Party for it to move forward in a way that actually means something.
Sanders said:
‘In my view, what [the Democratic Party] has got to become is a grassroots party; a party which makes decisions from the bottom on up; a party which is more dependent on small donations then on large donations; a party that speaks to the pain of the working class in this country.’
