CounterCurrents: We have small victory to celebrate today

Dear Friend,

We have a small victory to celebrate today! In yesterday's headlining article I had called upon Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan to stand up and take the lead in the campaign against the dictatorial order of the Central Government to ban the sale of cattle for slaughter that will push millions of, already impoverished farmers to suicide in India. The second demand in the article asked Kerala Chief Minister to call a meeting of all CMs. The article was widely shared among political circles. Today's Kerala cabinet meeting has decided to call such a meeting! It's a welcome first step to resist the illegal 'beef ban'. We have a long way to go.

If you don't mind, and if you think the content of this news letter is critical for the dignified living and survival of humanity and other species on earth, please forward it to your friends and spread the word. It's time for humanity to come together as one family! You can subscribe to our news letter here http://www.countercurrents.org/news-letter/.

Time For Left And Secular Forces To Step Forward To Fight Fascism In India
by K P Sasi

Since the public dissent against the banning of beef is taking place strongly in Kerala, it is the responsibility of the Kerala Government to convene a meeting of the representatives of all six states which are against the ban of beef. There is a need for common actions irrespective of political differences on this issue, keeping the interests of the farmers as well as consumers. It should also to be brought to the notice of the Central Government that the stake holders are not just the State Governments but also people in general. Therefore, imposition of such a notification without proper public discussion must be opposed tooth and nail.

French Media Hail Macron’s Moves Away From US Anti-Russian Policies
by Alex Lantier

Yesterday, French media applauded newly elected President Emmanuel Macron’s summit Monday in Versailles with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This enthusiasm was all the more significant as the newspapers made little effort to hide the fact that Macron was shifting towards Moscow despite Washington’s open hostility to Russia.

Forrest Donations And False Charity
by Dr Binoy Kampmark

It is easy to sneer, and availing oneself of this chance, let’s. The celebratory guff floating on the media glow of mining magnate Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest for giving away $400 million to charitable pursuits is reminiscent to that of Mark Zuckerberg.  At least he did not dig up the earth in the process.

Fortress Europe; The Rise Of Fascism And Racism In The Netherlands
by Thomas C Mountain

A few days ago I returned from Veldhoven, The Netherlands, where last April 13 in a breathtakingly fascist act of racism the Mayor of this small Dutch town deported over 600 Eritrean youth attending a conference, kicked out of their hotel and forced to leave the city in the middle of the night.

Peace Is The Plot
by Prof Shah Alam Khan

If you love peace, you need to see the channel Republic. You can’t always wait for peace. At times, you have to earn it. Fish it out of the madness which surrounds you all the time. There can be no two opinions on peace, just like you can’t have two suns or two moons. But peace is not about suns and moons. It’s not even about the rainbows which accompany the dark clouds.

Brutal Attack On Students In Banaras

CPDR expresses its deep concern over the brutality with which students’ expressions of dissent are being suppressed across the country. On 27 May, the UP police used brute force against students who were holding a protest at the gate of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) against the violent attacks on the Dalits of Saharanpur.
