Calls for General Election to be postponed after second terror attack in two weeks | 04 June 2017 | Politicians are coming under pressure to suspend the General Election after the latest terrorist outrage.Within hours of the attack on London Bridge, there were calls on social media for Thursday's poll to be postponed. The demands came as police said that six victims had been killed in the attack along with the perpetrators of the outrage. After last month's attack at the Manchester Arena, which claimed 22 lives,campaigning was suspended for several days.

The men, described as being 'of Mediterranean origin', shouted 'this is for Allah' after they mowed down up to 20 revellers in a white van hurtling across London Bridge at 50mph on Saturday. Attackers stabbed a police officer on the bridge - then began attacking revellers with 12-inch hunting knives at bars and restaurants in the nearby Borough Market, in what authorities described as terrorist incidents. Witnesses said the gang, who had metal canisters strapped to their chests, smashed pub windows and cut the throats of drinkers, while a 'dark-skinned' man in a red tracksuit 'calmly' stabbed a man three times. The male suspects were shot and killed by armed police in Borough Market within eight minutes of the first call.
 
British Transport Police officer responding to terror attacks was stabbed by jihadist and is in hospital with serious injuries | 04 June 2017 | A British Transport Police officer is among the 30 people injured in the London terror attack. The officer was on-duty at the time and was responding to the incident at London Bridge, where five men drove a van into a crowd of people. The group of men then jumped out of the car and began stabbing people nearby.
 
London Bridge car 'attack': 'van ploughed into pedestrians then stabbing' | 03 June 2017 | Armed police have sealed off London Bridge amid reports of a car mounting the pavement and ploughing into pedestrians. Eyewitnesses report that as up to "15 to 20" people may have been hit by the vehicle.
 
NYPD deploys counterterrorism units to crowded areas despite there being 'no specific or credible threat' of terrorism following London attacks --LAPD also urges 'Angelenos to be vigilant' | 03 June 2017 | The New York Police Department said on Saturday that it has deployed counterterrorism units in areas with heavy foot traffic as a precaution following news of the attack in London. The city said that while there are no credible or specific threats of terrorism in New York, it will still beef up security in crowded areas. The NYPD tweeted on Saturday that the department 'is monitoring events in London and officials are in touch with their British counterparts.'
 
Police arrest 17th person in connection with Manchester terror attack | 04 June 2017 | Police investigating the Manchester bombing have arrested a 24-year-old man. Greater Manchester Police said the man was arrested on Friday night in Rusholme on suspicion of offences contrary to the terrorism act. He is the 17th person to be arrested in connection with the May 22 attack at the Manchester Arena.
 
German police suspend open-air rock concert due to terrorism alert | 02 June 2017 | One of the biggest music festivals in Germany has been shut down after a 'concrete' terror threat. Rock am Ring was cancelled on its opening night and thousands of festival-goers were told to leave the site in Nurburg in a 'calm and controlled manner'. Some 92,500 three-day tickets were sold for the festival, which was due to run from Friday until Sunday.
 
Japan holds evacuation drills as North Korea presses on with missile tests | 04 June 2017 | About 100 school children and their parents are holding a clean-up on the field of the local elementary school in this small fishing and farming town, when an alarm warns of an impending missile attack and they run for the school gymnasium. Sunday's evacuation drill in this town of 3,500 people some 760 km (475 miles) west of Tokyo involved a simulated North Korean missile attack as more Japanese towns and cities take steps to brace for what they hope will never happen.
 
US missile defense test triggers alarm in Russia, China as North Korea issues new warnings | 03 June 2017 | The Pentagon's successful interceptor missile defense test this week is seen as a step toward reducing the nuclear risk from North Korea, but now China and Russia are seeing the U.S. technology as a threat. Regardless, North Korean state newspaper Rodong Sinmun said Thursday that its military was "ready to conduct an ICBM test-fire at any time." 
 
NSA conducted blanket surveillance of Salt Lakers during 2002 Games, former official says | 01 June 2017 | The National Security Agency conducted "blanket" warrantless surveillance of Salt Lake-area residents during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, according to a former agency senior executive. The declaration by Thomas A. Drake contradicts one given earlier this year by the former director of the NSA, Michael Hayden, that said neither the President's Surveillance Program (PSP), nor any other NSA intelligence-gathering activity, was involved in indiscriminate and wholesale surveillance in Salt Lake City or other Olympic venues during the 2002 Winter Games. Drake's declaration is part of a lawsuit filed in 2015 in U.S. District Court for Utah that claims violations of privacy over an alleged dragnet warrantless government surveillance program that included meta-data as well as emails and text messages.
 
Trump touts his blocked travel ban during ongoing police operations in London | 03 June 2017 | US President Donald Trump touted his proposed travel ban in response to several ongoing police operations in London, where multiple casualties were reported Saturday night. "We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety," Trump tweeted, before authorities in London could confirm full details of the incidents.
 
Trump administration appeals travel ban to Supreme Court | 01 June 2017 | The Trump administration on Thursday petitioned the Supreme Court to review its contentious travel ban, a move that could set up a high-stakes final verdict on a policy to restrict immigration from several Muslim-majority nations that has so far been stymied in several lower court decisions. "We have asked the Supreme Court to hear this important case and are confident that President Trump's executive order is well within his lawful authority to keep the Nation safe and protect our communities from terrorism," Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said in a statement released Thursday night.
 
'I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh not Paris:' Trump pulls U.S. out of climate accord saying it is a foreign attempt to seize American jobs and American wealth - and is immediately attacked by Obama | 01 June 2017 | Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the Paris accord on climate change on Thursday afternoon - deriding it as bad for American jobs and bad for the environment. He dared opprobrium from foreign leaders, environmentalists, scientists and celebrities to say he was putting the jobs of American workers first. 'We don't want other leaders and other countries laughing at us any more. And they won't be. They won't be,' Trump declared. 'I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.' Before he even sat down, his predecessor Barack Obama launched an all-out assault, saying Trump 'joins a small handful of nations that reject the future'.
 
Donald Trump pulls US out of Paris climate accord to 'put American workers first' | 02 June 2017 | Donald Trump has announced that he will withdraw the US from the Paris climate change agreement. The decision was condemned immediately by environmental campaigners and by the president's political opponents who said it heralded the death of America's position as a global leader. However, Mr Trump held out the hope of a compromise saying he would immediately start a process to develop a fairer deal that would protect American workers.
 
Former Vice President Biden to announce political action committee | 31 May 2017 | Former Vice President Joe Biden will announce on Thursday the formation of a political action committee (PAC), a signal that he is at least considering a possible run for president in 2020, the New York Times reported on Wednesday. Biden's PAC will be called "American Possibilities" and run by his former aide Greg Schultz, who also worked on President Barack Obama's two White House campaigns, the paper said.
 
Evergreen State College to remain closed a second day after threat of violence | 01 June 2017 | (WA) Evergreen State College said it will remain closed for a second day on Friday because of a "credible" threat of violence directed against the school. The threat came after a recent series of protests that have drawn national attention to student allegations of racism on the progressive campus, which has an enrollment of nearly 4,200 students. Thurston County received a call Thursday morning that was "threatening in nature to the campus at Evergreen," spokesperson Zach Powers said. Officials said on the college website Thursday evening that someone called the Thurston County Communications Center at 10:25 a.m. Thursday claiming to be armed and on the way to campus.
 
Kathy Griffin enlists celeb lawyer to respond to 'bullying from the Trump family she has endured' | 01 June 2017 | Just as the controversy surrounding the image of [sociopath] Kathy Griffin holding what appears to be a bloody fake severed head of President Trump appeared to be dying down, comes word that the comedian has enlisted celebrity lawyer Lisa Bloom to explain why she shot the image and to respond to the Trump family's alleged bullying. A press release Bloom tweeted reads, "Earlier this week, Ms. Griffin released a controversial photograph of herself posing with a faux-bloody mask of Donald Trump's face. Ms. Griffin and Ms. Bloom will explain the true motivation behind the image, and respond to the bullying from the Trump family she has endured."
 
Former Penn State President and two other administrators are jailed for failing to report Jerry Sandusky child abuse allegations ten years before he was ultimately convicted | 02 June 2017 | A former president of Penn State and two other former university administrators were each sentenced Friday to at least two months in jail for failing to alert authorities to a 2001 allegation against ex-assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. Their decision enabled the now-convicted serial predator to continue molesting boys. 'Why Mr. Sandusky was allowed to continue to the Penn State facilities is beyond me,' Judge John Boccabella said. 'All three ignored the opportunity to put an end to (Sandusky's) crimes when they had a chance to do so,' the judge said.
