RAW: Koua Fong Lee Speaks after Verdict in Toyota Camry Case

June 09, 2017 01:04 PM
A federal jury says Toyota Motor Corp.'s 1996 Camry had a design defect that was partly to blame for a fatal 2006 crash in Minnesota, but that the driver also was partially responsible.
Toyota was found 60 percent liable, and Lee is found 40 percent liable. A total of $11.4 million is awarded to the plaintiffs, $2.2 million of which is going to the Koua Fong Lee and his family.

The verdict was announced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis.

Toyota released the following statement:
“We sympathize with anyone in an accident involving one of our vehicles, including the Trice, Adams and Lee families.  While we respect the jury’s decision, we believe the evidence clearly demonstrated that Mr. Lee’s 1996 Camry was not the cause of this unfortunate accident.  We will study the record and carefully consider our legal options going forward.”
